Senior PCB Design & Layout Engineer – Power Management & High‐Voltage Systems
Bleeding Edge Ohio Based Technology Firm, Newly Created Role, Tremendous Growth Opportunity:
Role Overview: You will be a Senior PCB Design & Layout Engineer responsible for architecting, designing, and laying out advanced PCBs used in power management, power stepping, power boosting, and high‐voltage conversion applications. This role requires deep experience with small‐form‐factor boards, discreet power circuitry, analog behavior, and hands‐on testing using LTSpice and light embedded code. Experience supporting ASIC‐based designs is a strong plus....You will work on a small, fast‐moving engineering team, often owning designs end‐to‐end.
Core Responsibilities
PCB Design & Layout
Lead full lifecycle PCB development: requirements → schematic → layout → DFM → release.
Design boards for power management, including:
Step‐up/step‐down converters
Power boosting and high‐current delivery
High‐voltage switching and protection
Battery‐powered and low‐voltage systems
Create layouts for very small, uniquely shaped, and space‐constrained PCBs.
Optimize for thermal performance, creepage/clearance, isolation, and noise reduction.
Work with discreet components, analog front‐ends, and power semiconductors.
Collaborate with ASIC engineers to integrate ASIC‐based power or analog blocks into PCB designs.
Perform signal integrity, power integrity, and EMI/EMC mitigation analysis.
Drive DFM/DFT with fabrication partners; review stackups, tolerances, and manufacturing constraints.
Simulation, Analysis & Testing
Use LTSpice (and similar tools) for analog/power circuit simulation.
Validate power stages, switching behavior, transient response, and thermal loading.
Write light embedded test code (C/C++/Python/Arduino‐style) to support board bring‐up and functional testing.
Perform bench testing with scopes, meters, analyzers, and high‐voltage safety equipment.
Document test results, failure analysis, and corrective actions.
Team Collaboration & Ownership
Work closely within a small engineering team; comfortable owning designs independently.
Interface with mechanical, firmware, and ASIC engineers to ensure seamless system integration.
Produce clear documentation: schematics, layout notes, BOMs, test plans, and revision histories.
Support prototype builds, vendor coordination, and iterative design improvements.
Required Experience & Skills
BSE, BS in Computer Engineering or Physics or similar.
7–10+ years PCB design and layout experience.
Deep experience with power management PCB applications, including:
Boost/buck converters
High‐voltage switching
Power stepping and current delivery
Battery‐powered systems
Strong background in analog circuitry, discreet components, and power semiconductors.
Expertise designing very small, irregularly shaped PCBs with tight mechanical constraints.
Hands‐on experience with high‐voltage PCB design, including safety spacing, isolation, and protection.
Proficiency with Altium Designer (preferred) or similar EDA tools.
Strong LTSpice simulation skills for analog/power circuits.
Ability to write light embedded code for board testing and validation.
Experience working on small teams and owning designs independently.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting or integrating ASIC‐based power or analog ICs.
Familiarity with mixed‐signal PCB design.
Knowledge of thermal modeling, stackup optimization, and high‐density interconnect (HDI) design.
Experience with DFM/DFT, PCB fabrication processes, and vendor management.
Background in ruggedized, harsh‐environment, or miniaturized electronics.
Role Attributes
Highly independent, self‐directed engineer comfortable owning complex PCB designs.
Strong analog intuition and power‐focused design mindset.
Detail‐oriented with excellent documentation and communication skills.
Thrives in small, fast‐moving engineering teams.
Very Competitive Compensation and Benefits, Call or Apply Today!
Note: Relocation Assistance is offered for this on-site role.
