A leading aerospace and defence technology company developing advanced sensing, communications and mission-critical systems is expanding its engineering team in California. The Senior Electronics Design Engineer will join a multidisciplinary team developing precision electro-optical technology, with hands-on ownership across electronics design, integration and validation. This is an opportunity for a Senior Electronics Design Engineer to make a direct impact on sophisticated defence systems while working across Senior Electronics Design Engineer projects from concept through production.
Key Responsibilities
Lead electrical design activities from system requirements through implementation, integration and production release.
Develop and review schematics, block diagrams, electrical wiring diagrams and circuit designs.
Lead bench-level integration of hardware with software, firmware and FPGA systems.
Plan and execute hardware testing, validation activities and design reviews.
Develop technical trade studies and contribute to project planning, cost and schedule decisions.
Present circuit designs, analysis, performance budgets and test results to engineering teams and customers.
Required Experience & Skills
Essential:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering or a related discipline, with 6+ years of relevant experience; alternatively, a graduate degree with 4+ years of relevant experience.
Strong experience designing analog, digital and mixed-signal electronics.
Hands-on experience with electronic design and simulation tools such as Altium, Cadence, OrCAD, PADS, SPICE or Mentor Graphics.
Experience with microcontroller-based board design, embedded C programming and debugging.
Experience taking electronics through the development lifecycle, including design, build, integration, test and production.
Experience working with multidisciplinary engineering teams across electrical, optical, mechanical, software, firmware and FPGA disciplines.
Ability to obtain a US Security Clearance.
Desirable:
Experience with electro-optical, imaging, sensing, aerospace or defence systems.
Experience with stepper motor control circuit design.
Experience integrating FPGA-based designs with electronic hardware.
Strong understanding of digital electronics architecture and component availability.
Experience with version control tools and best practices.
Existing TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph.
Experience supporting customer-facing technical reviews and proposal activities.
Why Apply?
Work on sophisticated precision electro-optical and defence technology with real-world mission impact.
Take genuine end-to-end ownership of electronics development, from architecture and design through integration and test.
Collaborate with experienced engineers across electronics, optics, FPGA, firmware, software and mechanical engineering.
Join a technically demanding environment where your hardware directly contributes to mission-critical systems.
Benefit from a 9/80 working schedule, providing every other Friday off.
Base, plus comprehensive benefits and relocation assistance.
Recruiter's Note
We're particularly interested in Senior Electronics Engineers, Senior Electronics Design Engineers, Hardware Design Engineers and Electronics Design Engineers with strong hands-on experience in analog/digital/mixed-signal circuit design, PCB development, microcontrollers, embedded C and hardware integration.
Candidates from aerospace, defence, electro-optics, imaging, sensors, robotics or other high-reliability hardware environments are likely to be especially well suited. Experience taking complex electronics from concept through validation and production will be a key differentiator.
