Senior Electrical Engineer
The Senior Electrical Engineer defines product requirements, translate requirements to implementable architectures, perform detailed design work and ensure the end product is optimized for manufacturability.
Reports to: Senior Manager of Engineering
Location: Eden Prairie, MN office
This role has no direct supervisory responsibilities but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department
The candidate must meet the definition of “US Person” under ITAR/EAR regulations
Key Responsibilities
Lead the design and development of electrical and embedded hardware solutions from concept through implementation.
Convert product and customer requirements into scalable, practical, and cost-effective hardware architectures.
Design, analyze, and optimize electrical circuits and assemblies to ensure compliance with performance, manufacturability, reliability, and cost objectives.
Develop embedded hardware platforms based on microcontrollers and microprocessors, including analog and digital circuitry such as power management, sensor interfaces, ADCs, DACs, and communication circuits.
Create detailed schematics using industry-standard ECAD tools such as Cadence OrCAD or Altium Designer, and perform circuit simulations using tools like SPICE and HyperLynx where applicable.
Validate electrical designs to ensure reliable operation across specified environmental and operating conditions.
Produce and maintain engineering documentation, including design verification reports, PCB layout and routing guidelines, engineering change documentation, rework instructions, and technical evaluation reports.
Maintain accurate design records and revision history using version control and engineering documentation systems.
Deliver engineering assignments within defined project schedules and budget constraints.
Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams and project managers to support successful project execution.
Assist in preparing technical proposals and engineering documentation in response to customer specifications.
Support continuous improvement initiatives by contributing to hardware design standards, methodologies, and best practices.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and participate in design reviews.
Support Engineering Change Order (ECO) creation, review, and approval processes.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
Minimum of 4 years of experience in electronic product development or hardware design (position level and compensation will be based on experience).
Hands-on experience designing embedded systems using microcontrollers and microprocessors.
Strong understanding of the complete hardware development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, circuit design, design documentation, Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Test (DFT), and design verification.
Proven ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Practical experience using laboratory test equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and vector network analyzers.
Solid understanding of communication protocols including SPI, I²C, UART, and CAN.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications for documentation and reporting.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with both internal stakeholders and external customers.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced development environment while maintaining a strong customer focus.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with high-speed digital interface design, including DDR, PCIe, SATA, or similar technologies.
Knowledge of wireless communication technologies such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi (802.11), Zigbee, GSM, CDMA, or related protocols.
Experience designing or integrating RFID systems using active or passive tag technologies.
Familiarity with regulated product development environments, such as medical devices, aerospace, automotive, or industrial electronics.
Working knowledge of analog circuit design, signal integrity analysis, and simulation tools such as SPICE and HyperLynx.
