Title: Remote Senior Digital Systems Engineer (Contract to Hire)
Location: REMOTE but need to be able to travel 25% to Clearwater, FL and Clarksburg, MD
Hourly: $80 - $100 / Hour + Overtime
Founded in 2004, we are a specialized defense communications company employing approximately 200 people, with facilities in Clearwater, Florida and Maryland. The organization designs and manufactures advanced satellite communication systems and digital communication products for the U.S. Department of Defense and allied military customers. The Clearwater site focuses on engineering, production, and integration of secure satellite terminals and digital systems that support mission-critical communication in aerospace and defense applications. Clients include U.S. military branches, defense contractors, and government agencies. This is a remote role requiring approximately 25% travel (primarily to Clearwater, FL, with some travel to Maryland). The Senior Digital Systems Engineer will provide subject matter expertise in digital systems design, microprocessor architectures, and communication protocols, supporting advanced product development and integration.
What You Will Be Doing
Provide high-level expertise in microprocessor and microcontroller systems, especially ARM and Microchip architectures running C and LabVIEW software
Perform digital circuit design including A/D, DAC, and LVCMOS logic components with schematic capture and PWB layout using Altium, and simulate behavior with LTSpice
Design and implement single and differential serial interfaces including SPI, I2C, RS232, and Ethernet PHY & MAC for switch operation
Lead technical investigations into digital communication products, documenting outcomes and providing recommendations
Support development of acceptance test specifications and verification matrices to ensure compliance with Mil STD and industry standards
What You Need for This Position
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical discipline
10+ years of relevant experience with microprocessors, memory components, and digital/analog circuit design applied to DoD communication systems
Proficiency in C, C++, LabVIEW, and FPGA/CPLD design with VHDL
Familiarity with network protocols including SNMP, Ethernet, and VLAN ID
Must be able to travel approximately 25% (primarily to Clearwater, FL, with some travel to Maryland)
