We are seeking a Staff or Principal Power Electronics Design Engineer to lead the design and development of high-efficiency inverter systems for solar and renewable energy applications. This role is central to our next-generation power conversion architecture, with a focus on zero voltage switching (ZVS) and multilevel inverter topologies. You will drive topology selection, circuit design, and system integration from concept through production, working at the leading edge of power density and efficiency for grid-tied and renewable energy systems.
What You Will Do
Lead the design of ZVS and multilevel inverter topologies for solar and renewable energy power conversion systems.
Own power stage architecture decisions, including topology selection, component sizing, magnetics design, and thermal management.
Drive circuit design and simulation for high-efficiency, high-power-density inverter systems, from concept through prototyping and production release.
Partner closely with firmware and controls engineering to co-optimize switching strategy, control loop design, and system-level performance.
Lead bench validation and characterization of converter performance, including efficiency mapping, thermal testing, and compliance with relevant grid-tie standards.
Provide technical leadership across the power electronics organization, mentoring senior engineers and setting design standards and best practices.
Drive design reviews, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives across inverter product lines.
Collaborate with manufacturing and quality teams to ensure designs are optimized for production yield and reliability.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
10+ years of power electronics design experience, with direct focus on inverter or converter systems for solar or renewable energy applications.
Proven hands-on experience designing zero voltage switching (ZVS) and multilevel inverter topologies.
Strong background in magnetics design, thermal management, and high-power-density system architecture.
Experience taking power conversion designs from concept through production in a solar, renewable energy, or grid-tied inverter environment.
Proficiency with simulation tools such as PLECS, Simulink, or equivalent for power stage modeling and analysis.
Comfortable working directly with lab equipment to validate converter performance, efficiency, and thermal behavior.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with GaN or SiC based power stages.
Familiarity with relevant grid-tie standards and certification processes (UL 1741, IEEE 1547, or equivalent).
Prior experience in a staff or principal level role, influencing design architecture across teams.
What We Offer
Competitive compensation package including base salary and equity, commensurate with level and experience.
Opportunity to lead power electronics architecture for next-generation renewable energy systems.
A collaborative, technically rigorous engineering culture based in Mountain View, CA.
