Position Overview
We are seeking an Optical Design Engineer with strong expertise in optical system design, simulation, tolerancing, and validation. The role involves complete ownership of design activities from requirement capture to system validation and customer engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Project Initiation & Requirements
Understand system and product requirements; extract relevant inputs.
Define detailed optical specifications with primary engineering calculations.
Communicate assumptions, deliverables, timelines, and associated risks.
Anticipate challenges and provide effective risk mitigation strategies.
Optical System Design
Select suitable starting design configurations.
Perform detailed optical design using Zemax or equivalent tools.
Conduct optimization, tolerance analysis, and manufacturing sensitivity studies.
Generate optical drawings, documentation, and design reports.
Typical systems include:
EO/IR cameras, night vision optics
Spectrometers, laser systems
IR lenses, telescopes, lens stacks

Opto-Mechanical & Cross-Functional Collaboration
Transfer optical design intent to mechanical teams.
Support development of mounts, mechanisms, baffles & housings.
Understand tolerances and environmental impacts on system performance.
Basic exposure to detectors (CCD, CMOS, IR), acquisition electronics, and system integration.
Validation & Testing
Coordinate lens procurement, vendor interactions, and corrective actions.
Support fabrication, material selection, alignment, and test activities.
Perform optical validation under laboratory and environmental conditions.
General Engineering Contributions
