Job Description – Mechanical Design Engineer(Gas Panel) - with Semiconductor Domain Experience
Position Overview
The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for developing, validating, and releasing mechanical designs for new products, continuous improvement initiatives, and retrofit programs. The role requires strong expertise in mechanical design principles, component selection, engineering analysis, and cross-functional collaboration with both India and US-based teams. The candidate will function as an individual contributor, owning end-to-end design deliverables.

Retrofit / Upgrade Programs
Key Responsibilities
•
Develop 3D models, detailed engineering drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) for new product designs.
•
Perform mechanical calculations and engineering analysis as required for machine design.
•
Lead and support creation of retrofit procedures and related documentation.
•
Own and deliver Gas Panel Design requirements, ensuring compliance with specifications and standards.
•
Select mechanical components based on application requirements, performance criteria, and design constraints.
•
Review and interpret P&IDs; perform relevant analyses such as CFD, structural, or nonlinear analysis (preferred).
•
Collaborate closely with suppliers, internal engineering teams, production, project teams, and NPME groups.
•
Initiate and lead design reviews and status update meetings with US Design Engineering / NPME teams, primarily during late-evening time slots.
•
Execute design tasks aligned with New Product Development (NPD) processes and timelines.
•
Support continuous improvement and correction activities, including change requests and design modifications.
Required Skills
•
Expertise in 3D modelling and drafting using industry-standard UG NX tools.
•
Strong understanding of mechanical design calculations and engineering fundamentals.
•
Ability to evaluate and select mechanical components based on technical specifications.
•
Effective communication and coordination skills to engage with cross-functional and cross-geographical teams.
•
Experience working with P&IDs and performing engineering analyses (CFD, structural, nonlinear) is preferred.
Knowledge Requirements
•
Strong foundation in mechanical design principles.
•
Preferably knowledgeable in hydraulics and pneumatics systems.
•
Understanding of the completely New Product Development (NPD) lifecycle and associated processes.
•
Practical experience in machine design executed within an NPD framework.
•
Good to have exposure to retrofit, correction cycles, and change request management processes.
Experience
•
Minimum 5–10 years of experience in Mechanical Design.
•
Experience in industries such as Medical Devices, Oil & Gas, Precision Manufacturing, or other high-precision engineering sectors is preferred.
Educational Qualifications
•
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
Competencies for Managing Complexity
•
Ability to manage and deliver on multiple parallel projects.
•
Comfortable adapting to changing project priorities and timelines.
•
Willingness to work with US counterparts in late-evening meetings (around 9–10 PM), with flexibility in work hours as needed.
Temperament and Work Style
•
Ability to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders, including US SCLA/Austin Engineering teams, NPME (Austin/India), suppliers, and India GP teams.
•
Maintains a positive, resilient, and solution-oriented mindset when dealing with manufacturing challenges, escalations, tight deadlines, and dynamic environments.
•
Demonstrates ownership, accountability, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
