Overview
The Integrated Power Systems directorate is seeking to add new talent to advance and support development of electric drive (E-drive) control system components for the All Electric Navy. The United States Navy’s goals for more capable and more affordable submarines are shared and met by Electric Boat engineers as cutting-edge electric drive propulsion system components are developed, integrated, tested, and delivered with the utmost importance placed on first-time quality, in a timeframe that supports the needs of the United States Navy.
Unique opportunities exist to advance technology centric to propulsion control, which presently consists of a highly diverse team of engineers and support staff that hold technical knowledge key to delivery of robust, high-performance control systems for the COLUMBIA Class. These opportunities are being expanded beyond the COLUMBIA Class, and require engineers to perform tasking centric to component design through internal research and development.
Candidates may be required to travel (domestically), based on needs of the program. Flexible Work Arrangements are offered by Electric Boat, but vary on the amount of classified material that the candidate interacts with.
Candidates whose interest and experience align with the following role are desired for this hands-on engineering effort:
Hardware/Software Engineers
Experience in requirement analysis, hardware/software design, software development and test, hardware/software integration
Software, embedded software development experience in one (or more) of the following languages: C, C++, Assembly, Python
Hardware/system description language experience (VHDL, Verilog, SystemVerilog, SystemC) is desired, but not required
Experience in selection of commercial-off-the-shelf and custom components and circuit/processing cards to support rapid prototyping and demonstration of system functionality (based on system requirements)
Knowledge of industry-standard serial (RS-232/422/485, I2C, SPI) and high-speed serial protocols (PCIe, Ethernet, SRIO, etc.) and experience with fiber-optic communication systems is highly desired
Experience working in bare-metal and multi-process environments are desired
Experience with Xilinx, Microsemi, Texas Instruments, and Intel product lines and offerings
Experience with Visual Studio, QT, Jira, Git
Ability to thoroughly document code and contribute to engineering/design reports for distribution to external stakeholders
Detailed understanding of how to properly document test cases and create effective and focused testing plans
Able to prepare for peer review by creating practical demonstrations of proposed solutions and demonstrating them to other members of the team
Familiarity with Agile development
Qualifications
Required qualifications:
B.S. or B.E. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering
0-5 years post-graduate engineering experience
Be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance through the U.S. DoD (candidates must be a U.S. citizen)
Preferred Qualifications
Software development experience in one (or more) of the following languages: C, C++, and Assembly
Experience with Visual Studio, QT, Jira, and Git
Experience in requirement analysis, hardware/software design, software development and test, hardware/software integration
Experience with Xilinx, Microsemi, Texas Instruments, and Intel product lines (SoC, CPU, DSP, etc)
Experience working in bare-metal and multi-process environments
Experience with rapid prototyping via auto-code generation (using tools such as MathWorks’ Embedded Coder, Simulink Coder, etc)
Experience in selection of commercial-off-the-shelf and custom components and circuit/processing cards to support rapid prototyping and demonstration of system functionality, in accordance with functional system requirements
Advanced engineering degrees
Prior experience within the defense sector, as part of prime contracts or R&D efforts
Hardware/system description language experience (VHDL, Verilog, SystemVerilog, SystemC) is desired, but not required
Project lead experience
Currently-held security clearance (DoD Secret, DoD TS)
Skills
Experience with controls rapid prototyping via auto-code generation is desired
Effective communication skills, initiative, and ability to function as a member of a diverse team
Knowledge of industry-standard serial (RS-232/422/485, I2C, SPI) and high-speed protocols (PCIe, Ethernet, SRIO, etc.) and experience with fiber-optic communication systems is highly desired
Ability to thoroughly document code and contribute to engineering reports for distribution to external stakeholders
Detailed understanding of how to properly document test cases and create effective and focused testing plans
