Job Summary

Battelle is seeking an Integrated Circuit Design Engineering Co-Op for Spring and Summer Semester 2027. This position is 100% onsite, full-time, located in Columbus, OH. Battelle’s Cyber Trust & Assurance division, in our National Security Global Business. We are currently seeking someone with knowledge of VSLI and integrated circuit design with a background in electrical or computer engineering. This individual will support design, simulation, and modeling of digital integrated circuits. Application deadline: October 16th, 2026.

Responsibilities

Intern activities may include some or all of the following:

RTL design and RTL verification of custom hardware.
Synthesis, PnR, and Signoff of GDSII databases

Key Qualifications

Must be currently pursuing a Bachelors, Masters, or PhD in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
Must be a Senior Undergraduate standing or higher.
Experience with hardware description languages (SystemVerilog, VHDL).
Experience with the digital IC design process from RTL to GDSII.
1+ years of industry, academic, or research experience in VLSI design, simulation, and layout.
Proficiency in OOP in Python.
Able to work independently and as part of a team.
A positive attitude and willingness to take on technical challenges.
Must be a sole US citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a US government security clearance

Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with hardware verification methodologies, such as UVM and formal tools.
Experience with HDL generator frameworks (Chisel).
Exposure to Cadence digital design suite (Genus, Innovus, Tempus, Pegasus).
Related work experience (paid or unpaid) is preferred.

Compensation Data

The salary range for this role is $20.00 - $40.00 per hour, in addition to a $2,000 housing stipend for students relocating more than 50 miles from home and university. Internship pay is benchmarked against national averages taking into consideration a student's major and year in school.
