The Energy Electrical Engineering team designs the eyes, ears, and brains of Tesla’s Vehicle charging & Optimus charging and residential/industrial energy storage products including Powerwall and Megapack. As a High-Speed Digital Design Engineer, you will architect and develop next-generation compute, communication, and monitoring platforms that push the performance boundaries of energy electronics. You'll design high-bandwidth data acquisition systems, real-time control processors with multi-gigabit interfaces, signal integrity-critical PCBs, and the digital backbones.
What You’ll Do
Design high-speed digital systems and PCBAs for energy products, including DDR3/4/5, Gigabit Ethernet, USB 3.x, PCIe, and other high-bandwidth interfaces
Own end-to-end hardware design from schematic capture and component selection through layout review, bring-up, and production release
Perform signal integrity and power integrity analysis, including pre- and post-layout simulation, to ensure robust high-speed design margins
Collaborate cross-functionally with mechanical, firmware, EMC, general low-voltage EE, RF, design validation, thermal, compliance, reliability, and manufacturing test engineers
What You’ll Bring
Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience with high-speed digital design
Hands-on experience designing high-speed digital circuits with DDR3/4/5, PCIe, USB 3.x, Gigabit Ethernet, LVDS, or similar
Understanding of signal integrity fundamentals: transmission line theory, impedance matching, termination strategies, jitter, crosstalk, return loss
Experience with SI/PI simulation tools (HyperLynx, Ansys SIwave, Cadence Sigrity, ADS, HFSS, or equivalent)
Proficiency in selecting and interfacing SoCs, FPGAs, DDR memory, Ethernet PHYs, and high-speed transceivers
Experience in PCB stack-up design, controlled impedance routing, layer assignment, via stitching, and plane partitioning for multi-Gbps signaling
Hands-on debug experience with high-speed lab equipment: high-bandwidth oscilloscopes (>4 GHz), TDR/TDT, VNAs, BERTs, protocol analyzers
Strong collaboration skills working across general LV EE, RF, firmware, FPGA, layout, test, and manufacturing teams
