About the Role
We are building the next-generation Global LEO-PNT (Positioning, Navigation, and Timing) satellite constellation from India. We are looking for a highly motivated FPGA Engineer to design, implement, and verify FPGA and firmware architectures that power VyomIC’s onboard GNSS receiver, timing, and payload systems. The role involves RTL development, hardware integration, embedded firmware, high-speed digital design, and implementation of advanced signal processing algorithms for real-time satellite applications. You will collaborate closely with hardware, signal processing, GNSS, and mission teams to bring receiver and timing architectures from concept to silicon.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop and maintain FPGA firmware using VHDL, Verilog and Embedded C for onboard receiver and timing subsystems.
Implement complete FPGA development flow including RTL design, synthesis, implementation, place-and-route, timing closure and bitstream generation.
Develop simulation environments, testbenches and verification methodologies to validate RTL functionality.
Perform waveform analysis, debugging and design modifications based on verification results.
Integrate FPGA firmware with onboard hardware, embedded software and high-speed digital interfaces.
Develop and debug communication interfaces including I2C, SPI, UART, Ethernet, RS422, RS485 and CAN protocols.
Implement advanced FPGA algorithms including Kalman Filtering, Digital Signal Processing (DSP), FFT, NCOs, correlators, synchronization and fixed-point designs.
Implement PRN encoding for navigation message generation supporting onboard GNSS payload operation.
Work with Microchip/Microsemi Libero SoC, SoftConsole and MATLAB for firmware development, synthesis and embedded software integration.
Perform hardware bring-up, bench validation, hardware-in-the-loop testing and system-level debugging.
Collaborate with hardware, GNSS, signal processing and mission teams throughout the complete FPGA development lifecycle.
Support prototype development, system integration and validation for space-qualified FPGA platforms.
Stay updated with the latest advancements in space-grade FPGA technologies, radiation-tolerant devices and embedded firmware development.
Required Skills & Experience
Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electronics, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Embedded Systems or a related field.
Strong hands-on experience in RTL development using VHDL, Verilog and Embedded C.
Strong understanding of FPGA design flow including RTL design, synthesis, implementation, simulation, verification and timing closure.
Experience with high-speed digital design, pipelined architectures, Clock Domain Crossing (CDC), reset synchronization and Static Timing Analysis (STA).
Experience in FPGA simulation, testbench development, waveform analysis and RTL debugging.
Good understanding of fixed-point implementation and hardware-software partitioning.
Practical experience with FPGA hardware integration and debugging.
Experience implementing communication protocols including I2C, SPI, UART and other embedded interfaces.
Experience implementing DSP algorithms such as Kalman Filters, FFT, Digital Filters, NCOs, Correlators and Synchronization algorithms on FPGA.
Working knowledge of Microchip/Microsemi Libero SoC, SoftConsole, MATLAB and scripting languages such as TCL, Python or Bash.
Strong debugging skills across RTL, embedded firmware and hardware platforms.
Preferred Skills & Experience
Experience with space-grade or radiation-tolerant FPGA development.
Experience developing firmware for GNSS receivers, satellite payloads or timing systems.
Experience implementing PRN encoding for navigation message generation.
Knowledge of high-speed serial interfaces such as LVDS, SerDes and related technologies.
Experience with hardware bring-up, bench testing and hardware-in-the-loop validation.
Ability to debug the complete FPGA pipeline from RTL → Synthesis → Bitstream → Hardware Validation.
Experience working in cross-functional teams involving hardware, signal processing, embedded systems and system architecture.
