Job Description:
Skyroot is looking for a hands-on Embedded Hardware Design Engineer to work on onboard Avionics modules for launch vehicle applications. The role involves end-to-end ownership of hardware modules from requirements, architecture, schematic design, PCB design support, bring-up, validation, qualification, and release.
The candidate should have strong experience in SoC/FPGA-based digital and mixed-signal hardware, SoM/carrier board design, high-speed interfaces, and aerospace-grade design practices. Experience with Xilinx SoCs/FPGAs will be preferred, but experience with other SoC/FPGA platforms is also relevant
Responsibilities:
Design and develop onboard Avionics hardware modules for launch vehicle applications.
Own hardware modules from requirement analysis, architecture, schematic design, PCB layout support, bring-up, validation, qualification, and release.
Work on SoC/FPGA-based boards, SoM carrier boards, processor boards, and mixed-signal interface boards.
Design and validate high-speed interfaces such as DDR3/DDR4, Ethernet, LVDS, PCIe, USB, SERDES, SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, RS-422/RS-485, ADC/DAC interfaces, and clock circuits.
Define and review PCB layout constraints for impedance control, length matching, return paths, decoupling, grounding, isolation, stack-up, and EMI/EMC.
Design power supply sections, signal conditioning circuits, protection circuits, Analog front ends, sensor interfaces, level shifting, and isolation circuits.
Perform prototype board bring-up, power rail checks, clock/reset validation, boot validation, interface testing, debugging, and issue closure.
Support environmental and qualification testing such as vibration, thermal, shock, EMI/EMC, functional testing, and acceptance testing.
Perform root cause analysis for hardware failures, signal integrity issues, power issues, short circuits, EMI/EMC failures, and qualification failures.
Work closely with firmware, software, mechanical, manufacturing, quality, and system engineering teams.
Prepare design documents, test procedures, validation reports, BOMs, ECN inputs, and release documentation.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronics Engineering or equivalent discipline.
2-6 years of experience in embedded hardware design, avionics hardware, FPGA/SoC boards, processor boards, or mixed-signal electronics.
Strong experience with SoCs/FPGAs, SoM modules, carrier board design, and high-speed digital hardware. Xilinx platform experience is preferred.
Hands-on experience in schematic design and PCB design/layout review using Altium Designer is preferred.
Good understanding of DDR layout, Ethernet PHY/MAC, LVDS, SERDES, impedance-controlled routing, length matching, termination, and signal integrity.
Experience in power architecture, DC-DC converters, LDOs, sequencing, protection, filtering, grounding, and isolation.
Experience in board bring-up, hardware debugging, failure analysis, root cause analysis, and qualification support.
Hands-on experience with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, power supplies, electronic loads, and DMMs.
RF hardware design, RF testing, antenna interface, impedance matching, or spectrum/network analyzer experience will be a big plus.
Knowledge of C, VHDL/Verilog, TCL, Python, or LabVIEW will be an added advantage.
Core Technical Skills:
SoC/FPGA hardware design and SoM carrier board integration.
High-speed interface design: DDR, Ethernet, LVDS, PCIe, USB, SERDES, clocks, and differential signaling.
Signal integrity, PCB stack-up, impedance control, length matching, grounding, shielding, and EMI/EMC.
Power supply design, signal conditioning, Analog front-end, ADC/DAC, protection, and isolation circuits.
Schematic design, PCB layout review, board bring-up, debugging, qualification support, and RCA.
Attitude:
Technically curious, hands-on, and willing to go deep into circuit behavior and failure modes.
Strong ownership mindset to drive modules from concept to qualified product release.
Methodical in design reviews, testing, issue tracking, documentation, and closure.
Good debugging discipline with patience to isolate electrical, layout, firmware, mechanical, and environmental issues.
Comfortable using AI tools to automate repetitive engineering tasks, improve documentation speed, support data analysis, and increase day-to-day
productivity.
Clear communication and ability to work with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced launch vehicle environment.
