Roles & Responsibilities
As a Validation & Characterization Engineer, you will be responsible for the electrical characterization, validation, reliability assessment, and qualification of SiC and GaN power devices. This role will involve working closely with device design, operations, product engineering, and applications teams to evaluate device performance, identify risks and failure mechanisms, and drive technology improvements. The role will span the complete post-fabrication validation cycle, from initial device bring-up and characterization through reliability testing, and qualification. Here are the key responsibilities and tasks typically associated with this role:
Device Characterization & Validation
Develop and execute electrical characterization plans for SiC/GaN power devices, covering static and dynamic parameters such as breakdown voltage, leakage, threshold voltage, on-resistance, I-V characteristics, capacitance, gate charge, switching losses.
Reliability & Qualification
Plan and execute accelerated reliability and robustness testing, including HTRB, HTGB, H3TRB/THB, HTOL, temperature/power cycling, TDDB, dynamic stress, avalanche/UIS, and short-circuit testing. Develop qualification plans aligned with JEDEC, AEC-Q101, AQG324, and customer requirements.
Lab Bring-Up & Test Development
Lead device bring-up and establish high-voltage, high-current, high-temperature, and high-frequency measurement capabilities. Develop and validate test fixtures, measurement methods, and application-relevant characterization techniques.
Data Analysis & Root-Cause Investigation
Analyze wafer-, package-, and application-level data to identify performance trends, process sensitivities, yield limiters, degradation mechanisms, and reliability risks. Lead root-cause investigations using electrical, statistical, failure-analysis, and process data.
Technology & Process Development Support
Support DOE/split-lot studies, process-change evaluation, technology transfer, and device optimization. Provide characterization and reliability feedback to device design, process integration, packaging, and applications teams.
Test Automation & Data Analytics
Develop automated characterization, data-analysis, and reporting workflows using JMP, MATLAB, Python, Excel, or equivalent tools. Build dashboards and tools to improve test efficiency, data quality, and engineering decision-making.
SPICE Modeling
Develop, extract, and validate SPICE/compact models from measured SiC/GaN device characteristics and correlate models with circuit/application-level behaviour.
Innovation
Develop new characterization and reliability methodologies and contribute to technical reports, publications, patents, and other technology-development activities. Prepare detailed presentations for stakeholders, including senior management, clients, or industry partners.
