Transportation Project Engineer
Location: Chicago, Illinois, United States
Compensation: $100,000 - $130,000
A well-established civil engineering consultancy with a strong presence across Illinois is seeking a Transportation Project Engineer to join their Chicago office. The firm has a proven track record delivering transportation, roadway, highway, and municipal infrastructure projects for state and local government clients.
This is a varied role where you will operate as a Project Manager on smaller assignments and Project Engineer on larger schemes, giving you real ownership of projects and the chance to develop client-facing and commercial skills alongside technical design work.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and contribute to the design and delivery of transportation, roadway, and highway engineering projects
Perform technical tasks including research, reports, design, specifications, and plan preparation
Support business development activity including attending client meetings
Assist with proposal preparation and coordination to secure new work
Work effectively within a multidisciplinary team across projects of varying scale and complexity
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
8–10+ years of progressive transportation design experience
PE license required
Proven experience on IDOT, Illinois Tollway, CDOT, county, and locally administered federal aid projects
Proficiency in MicroStation and/or AutoCAD — OpenRoads experience a plus
Working knowledge of IDOT specifications and design standards
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Compensation & Benefits
Base salary between $80,000 – $100,000 depending on experience
