IMEG is hiring a Traffic Project Engineer in Fort Lauderdale or Palmetto Bay, FL, to lead traffic-focused design efforts for low to moderate complexity projects and support delivery of larger, high-complexity transportation work with senior staff. In this role, you’ll work closely with engineers and consultants to provide engineering solutions and advice that improve transportation systems, enhance traffic safety, and optimize infrastructure for public and private clients. You’ll also help manage project budgets while training, mentoring, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations.
Principal Responsibilities
Lead design efforts for complex transportation projects involving highways, bridges, signals, transit systems, and multimodal transportation networks
Complete and oversee permit applications in coordination with the team, client, and reviewing jurisdiction
Provide advanced technical oversight and transportation design leadership to the project team
Support projects through bidding and construction administration
Work with clients to understand project needs, gather requirements, and communicate technical information effectively
Build and maintain client relationships through professional communication
Perform periodic field data collection or studies, including traffic counts, parking counts, sign/signal inventory, and sight distance measurements
Lead project planning, budgeting, and scheduling tasks to meet deadlines and objectives
Document design decisions and client instructions while monitoring progress against percent complete and fee expended
Analyze engineering problems and develop practical, efficient solutions in collaboration with senior engineers and consultants
Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices while contributing to research and innovation efforts within IMEG
Prioritize safety and regulatory compliance, apply state and local design criteria, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and identify project issues for escalation to the Project Manager
Required Qualifications And Skills
Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil Engineering, or equivalent, required
Professional Engineer (PE) License required
5 years of experience minimum required, 6 preferred, in the Civil Engineering and Construction industry required.
Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications
Proficiency in technical and analytical skills for transportation planning, engineering design and analysis, and regulatory processes; Proficiency in permit management software
Knowledge with local, state, and federal transportation regulations, environmental, policies, and permitting procedures
Strong training and mentoring skills
Proficiency of industry standard engineering software and tools such as SYNCHRO, HCS, VISSIM, SIDRA, CORSIM, FSUTMS/SERPM, ArcGIS or Microstation
Experience with state and federal manuals such as Highway Safety Manual, ITE Trip Generation, MUTCH, FDOT TEM
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Eagerness to adapt to new challenges
Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
Ability to travel up to 15% with occasional overnight stays
