Job Description
An Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Engineer is responsible for the planning, design,
analysis, and implementation of advanced transportation technologies that improve traffic
operations, safety, and mobility.
Key Responsibilities
Design and develop ITS infrastructure including CCTV, DMS/VMS, vehicle detection,
fiber-optic and wireless communications networks.
3–7 years of experience in ITS engineering within a consulting or public-sector environment.
Must understand and have experience with Federal Systems Engineering Standards.
Prepare ITS, electrical, and traffic control plans, specifications, estimates, and contract
documents.
Perform electrical and communications design for interconnected ITS devices.
Conduct field reviews, system testing, inspections, and construction support for ITS
installations.
Coordinate with clients, agencies, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams on design and
implementation.
Ensure compliance with MUTCD, AASHTO, NJDOT standards, and applicable codes.
Assist with project schedules, budgets, proposals, and technical documentation.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Transportation
Engineering.
Experience related to ITS, electrical systems, traffic detection systems, and
communications networks.
Familiarity with ITS design QA/QC standards and guidelines
Proficiency with design software such as AutoCAD and/or MicroStation
Strong written, verbal, and coordination skills.

Desirable Qualifications
EIT or PE license
CFOT
Experience with communication analysis tools including wireless systems
Experience on projects in the NYC / NY / NJ metropolitan area and familiarity with regional
agency standards.
Familiarity with fiber-optic communications, network architecture, computer networking,
and ITS system integration.
Knowledge of Testing and Commissioning Standards along with “burn in” and corrective
measures.

Work Environment
Office-based design work combined with field visits and construction support.
May involve hybrid work between office, client facilities, and field locations depending on
project needs.
