Test Engineer – Vibration & Thermal Vacuum
Role Overview
The Test Engineer is a key technical contributor responsible for leading vibration and thermal vacuum testing activities for spaceflight hardware. This role owns test campaign execution, ensures compliance with program requirements, and serves as a technical authority for environmental verification efforts.
Responsibilities
Lead the development and execution of vibration and TVAC test campaigns from concept through final reporting.
Define test strategies, requirements, and acceptance criteria in collaboration with systems and design teams.
Operate and oversee the use of shakers, thermal vacuum chambers, and instrumentation systems.
Provide real-time oversight of testing, including anomaly detection, troubleshooting, and decision-making.
Ensure all testing complies with applicable aerospace standards and customer requirements.
Direct test setups including fixturing, sensor selection, placement, and calibration.
Lead failure investigations and root cause analyses for test nonconformances.
Deliver comprehensive test reports with data analysis, conclusions, and recommendations.
Maintain readiness of test facilities and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Mentor junior engineers and technicians as needed.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.
3+ years of professional experience in aerospace environmental testing.
Demonstrated expertise in vibration and thermal vacuum testing methodologies.
Strong understanding of spacecraft environmental requirements and verification processes.
Experience with data acquisition systems, instrumentation, and test data analysis.
Proven ability to work cross-functionally and communicate technical results clearly.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with test automation or analysis tools such as LabVIEW, MATLAB, Python, or TestStand.
Background supporting spacecraft or launch vehicle qualification programs.
Knowledge of MIL-STD-1540, MIL-STD-810, ECSS, or NASA standards.
Familiarity with thermal or structural modeling and correlation activities.
