Job Overview

We are seeking a Systems Engineer to serve as the technical owner of embedded controller hardware and platform systems that support Ingersoll Rand’s industrial products. This role focuses on defining, validating, and ensuring system-level performance across hardware, firmware, and software while partnering with global engineering and product teams.

Responsibilities

Translate product and platform requirements into clear, testable system-level definitions
Own system design of controller hardware, including I/O, communication interfaces, and machine integration
Define system interface requirements and constraints (timing, power, safety, thermal) across subsystems
Maintain end-to-end requirements traceability from concept through validation and release
Identify risks, integration issues, and system-level challenges early in the design process
Collaborate with Test and QA teams to define validation criteria and verify system readiness
Use field data and system telemetry to validate design performance and drive continuous improvement
Partner with global engineering, product, and cross-functional teams to support development and execution.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field
5+ years of experience in systems, controls, or embedded engineering

Core Competencies

Strong understanding of embedded controller systems and hardware platforms
Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (CAN, RS485, SPI/I2C)
Experience with system requirements development and traceability tools (ALM/PLM)
Familiarity with regulatory and safety standards (UL, IEC, ISO, EMI/EMC)
Ability to translate complex technical concepts across multidisciplinary teams

Preferences

Experience with embedded systems (microcontrollers, RTOS, embedded Linux)
Familiarity with model-based systems engineering or hardware-in-the-loop testing
Exposure to power electronics, motor controls, or drive systems
Experience with system-level risk analysis (DFMEA, hazard analysis
Experience working across hardware, firmware, and software integration in product development environments
Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across global teams and stakeholders
Experience supporting product testing, validation, and issue resolution

Travel & Work Arrangements/Requirements

Standard hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (flexibility required for early meetings with global teams)
Up to 10–15% travel (primarily domestic).

Pay Range

The pay range for this role is $85,000 – $100,000. The pay range considers a wide range of factors that include a candidate’s skills, experience, training, and geographic location.
