As a Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for defining the specifications for new integrated circuit product development. You must demonstrate a viable return on investment to the leadership team for new product development through research of total addressable market (TAM), competitive landscape, and customer feedback. In collaboration with the Applications Team, you will define as well as create the tools and collateral required to facilitate our customers’ adoption of new products.
What You’ll Do
Create and maintain the customer-facing datasheets for new products, from initial datasheet through qualification and up to release to market.
Ensure product specification compliance through oversight of the spec compliance matrix (SCM), mandating comprehensive inputs from the IC Design Team, IC Verification Team, Radiation Effects Team, and Production Test Team (DFT).
Negotiate new product specifications and architectural trade-offs with the IC Design Team, Test Team, and customers.
Vet new product specifications with lead customers identified in collaboration with the Marketing Team.
Meet with customers to understand what problems Apogee can solve for them and what market opportunities exist in addressing those problems. Feed this input into Sales and Marketing to support new product sales and the strategic roadmap.
Compile the market opportunity report, competitive analysis report, and customer feedback to support a go / no-go decision for new product development.
Work with Marketing to identify and participate in key committees and standards organizations to remain current on industry trends and promote Apogee’s core competencies.
Assist early customers with understanding new product offerings prior to release into production.
Support the Applications Team in understanding new products so they can address customers’ needs and questions once a product is released to market.
Be an advocate for customers’ requirements in internal discussions.
Perform systems analysis where necessary to support new product development; this may include stability analysis of closed-loop systems.
Develop initial reference designs that can be used for simulation and bench evaluation of a product prior to release.
Develop initial SPICE or other models of system-level performance, as needed.
Identify opportunities for “system-level” patents and raise them to the CTO. If you are an inventor and the company decides to pursue a patent, assist the patent team with creation of the patent filing.
Identify, specify, and develop tools to assist customer adoption of new products.
Requirements
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or a related engineering field.
Proven experience in semiconductor systems engineering, space systems design, power system design, or related experience.
Knowledge of radiation effects on space systems is a benefit, but not an absolute requirement.
A strong team player, able to work toward common goals.
Demonstrable technical innovation: architecture, patents, etc.
Experience in technical customer meetings—explaining the technical advantages of products and soliciting technical and market feedback.
Preferred Experience (Not Required)
The following experience is not required but is strongly preferred and will distinguish a candidate. We are particularly interested in candidates with a background in the aerospace and/or defense industry, ideally space systems for defense applications, who understand how that ecosystem works and can engage its customers directly.
Direct experience in the aerospace and/or defense industry, preferably with space systems for defense applications.
Familiarity with the engineering, qualification, and procurement processes of traditional defense primes, and an understanding of how to navigate their supplier and program workflows.
Awareness of the emerging new primes and the broader new-space ecosystem, including venture-backed defense and space organizations.
Understanding of defense and space program lifecycles, from requirements capture and proposal through qualification and into production.
Excellent customer-facing communication skills, with a proven ability to present technical solutions to customers and to listen carefully, translating their needs into clear product requirements.
Familiarity with standards and assurance frameworks relevant to space and defense electronics (e.g., radiation hardness assurance, QML, AS9100), and an awareness of ITAR / EAR export-control considerations.
