The Suspension Design & Release Engineer is responsible for the end-to-end design, packaging, engineering development, timing, and production release of chassis suspension components and sub-systems (e.g., control arms, springs, dampers, anti-roll bars, knuckles, and bushings). This role leads component-level execution to satisfy vehicle functional objectives, driving dynamics, durability, and NVH performance across all vehicle development phases—from advanced architecture to full production launch.
Key Responsibilities
System Design & Packaging: Lead the design, packaging, and 3D CAD modeling of chassis suspension components and assemblies, ensuring proper clearances with surrounding systems (powertrain, brakes, BIW, and steering).
Kinematics & Dynamics: Collaborate with Driving Dynamics and Chassis Virtual Analysis teams to develop suspension kinematic and compliance (K&C) models and translate vehicle functional objectives into component-level targets.
Validation & Testing: Manage the Design Verification Plan & Report (DVP&R), defining and coordinating component-, sub-system-, and vehicle-level testing (durability, fatigue, stiffness, and NVH) with internal labs and Tier-1 suppliers.
Supplier & Program Management: Author technical source packages/RFQs, manage supplier engineering deliverables, track Tool Kick-Off (TKO) timelines, and lead technical reviews through key program CAD milestones.
Cross-Functional & Build Support: Coordinate with CAE, Vehicle Integration, Stress Lab, and Quality teams to evaluate structural integrity and resolve build issues at prototype facilities and vehicle assembly plants.
Change & Documentation Control: Maintain Bill of Materials (eBOM), lead DFMEA updates, process Change Notices (CNs), and establish joint fastener designs and assembly torque specifications.
Education: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or equivalent.
Experience: 3 to 8 years of experience in automotive chassis product development, specifically in suspension components or sub-systems.
Technical Skills
Advanced proficiency in CAD and PLM software (UG NX, CATIA V5, or Teamcenter).
Solid understanding of vehicle dynamics, chassis kinematics, joint design, GD&T, and structural CAE interpretation.
Hands-on experience with DFMEA, DVP&R, DFM/DFA, and root cause analysis methodologies.
