Substation Project Engineer (3–5 yrs)
Electrical Engineer | Power Delivery | Remote | 10% Travel
📍 Remote (U.S.)

About the Role
We are partnering with a highly respected power delivery consulting firm supporting utilities, renewable developers, and infrastructure clients across North America.
They are looking for an Electrical Engineer / Project Engineer with 3–5 years of substation experiencewho wants to deepen their technical expertise and grow toward a Lead Substation Engineer role.
You will work alongside experienced engineers designing and delivering high-voltage substation infrastructure projects, gaining exposure to consulting engineering, client coordination, and complex power system projects.
This role offers strong mentorship, meaningful technical responsibility, and a clear path toward technical leadership.
What You’ll Work On
You will support engineering and design for high-voltage substations including:
• Substation yard layouts and equipment arrangement
• Grounding system design and lightning protection
• Conduit and cable routing
• General arrangement drawings and elevations
• Control building and auxiliary AC/DC systems
• Equipment specifications and bill of materials
You will also support Protection & Controls engineering, including:
• One-line and three-line diagrams
• Relay panel arrangements
• AC/DC schematics
• Control wiring diagrams
Engineering Responsibilities
• Support substation design and engineering deliverables
• Prepare engineering calculations and studies
Grounding analysis
Lightning protection
AC/DC load studies
• Develop equipment specifications and material lists
• Coordinate design with civil, structural, transmission, and protection teams
• Support drawing review, vendor coordination, and engineering QA
• Participate in project meetings and client discussions
• Contribute to project scopes, schedules, and technical documentation
Required Experience
• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
• 3–5 years of experience in substation engineering or power delivery
• Experience supporting substation design deliverables, such as:
One-line diagrams
General arrangements
Grounding layouts
Conduit and cable plans
Control schematics
Material lists
• Familiarity with high-voltage substations (12kV–500kV)
• Ability to work in a consulting engineering environment
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
Preferred (Not Required)
• EIT certification or working toward PE
• Experience with tools such as:
AutoCAD
MicroStation
ETAP
SKM
EasyPower
• Familiarity with IEEE, NESC, or utility standards
