Electrical Project Engineer - Substation - Remote
The Opportunity
Lead or support substation projects up to 765 kV, serving as a technical specialist or project lead.
Produce protection & control designs (relays, one-lines, schematics, wiring) and physical layouts (yard plans, grounding, lightning protection, AC/DC systems).
Review and ensure quality of electrical design packages.
Mentor junior engineers and support team development.
Prepare equipment specs and BOMs for procurement and construction.
Coordinate with clients, vendors, subcontractors, and project teams.
Travel as needed for design reviews, field verification, and coordination.
Manage design budgets, schedules, and project deliverables.
Key Responsibilities
Apply and guide others on standards, engineering codes, and company policies.
Deliver high-quality engineering work, calculations, and design packages across multiple projects.
Manage budgets, schedules, and quality while delegating tasks and reviewing team output.
Lead production efforts, coordinate multiple disciplines, and serve as responsible engineer when required.
Collaborate across teams and disciplines on moderately complex projects.
Identify and communicate key client drivers; support business development activities.
Serve as a technical expert, solving complex engineering challenges and advising project teams.
Mentor junior staff, support performance management, and contribute to professional development.
Preferred Qualifications
High-voltage (HV) substation design experience – Physical and/or Protection & Controls
Project lead and technical specialist experience supporting utility substation clients
QA/QC review experience
Strong communication and coordination experience with multidisciplinary teams and clients
Professional Engineer (PE) license
Proficiency with Bluebeam Revu and Microsoft Office
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited program
Minimum of 5 years of related work experience
Ability to complete pre-employment onboarding including background checks, drug screening, and motor-vehicle checks
