The Opportunity
In this role, you will contribute to the design and delivery of high‑voltage substations and Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) projects within Hitachi Energy’s Grid Integration business. Your work supports grid owners in increasing power transfer capacity, improving system stability, and integrating power more efficiently into existing networks. You will be involved across project phases, from tender support through detailed design, manufacturing documentation, installation, and commissioning. The work spans electro‑mechanical and primary/physical design, requiring coordination with electrical, civil, system engineering, and global team members. You will address complex technical challenges involving station layouts, grounding, lightning protection, structural components, and 3D plant models, while working within applicable codes and standards. Through technical discussions with customers, suppliers, and subcontractors, your contributions will help deliver safe, reliable, and well‑documented solutions that support long‑term grid reliability and power quality improvement.
How You’ll Make an Impact
Develop base and detailed electro‑mechanical and primary/physical designs for FACTS and high‑voltage substation projects
Coordinate mechanical engineering activities across multiple projects and disciplines
Prepare station layouts, grounding plans, lightning protection plans, and related design documents
Perform and review mechanical calculations related to grounding, illumination, magnetic fields, lightning protection, and structures
Create and review 3D plant models using Revit and associated BIM tools
Support testing, installation, and commissioning activities through technical input
Review vendor and sub‑supplier drawings, technical documentation, and bid responses
Prepare work plans, cost estimates, and engineering documentation including As‑Built drawings
Responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines
Your Background
Candidate must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in the United States
3+ years of relevant substation design experience
Knowledge of National Electric Code and ANSI/IEEE requirements
Experience with FACTS and/or high‑voltage substations
Experience in HV transmission substation plant design
Experience with Revit 3D modeling and BIM / Autodesk Construction Cloud
