Design Engineer – Substation

Overview

Design substation systems (physical + protection & control) across the full project lifecycle. Work within a multidisciplinary team to deliver compliant, high-quality engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design substation layouts (yard, grounding, lightning protection, control buildings)
• Develop P&C schematics, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, and panel layouts
• Produce drawings, calculations, and bills of materials
• Perform engineering studies (voltage drop, grounding, cable pulling, etc.)
• Ensure compliance with NEC, NESC, IEEE, ANSI standards
• Conduct design reviews and resolve technical issues
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, and field teams
• Maintain project documentation and support delivery
• Travel occasionally (10–25%) for site/project support

Requirements

• Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering (ABET)
• PE required
• Open to entry-level → experienced hires (banded role)
• Exposure to substation design or construction is a plus
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
