About Edge Steel
At Edge Steel, we provide steel building solutions grounded in experience, precision, and accountability. From storage to commercial and flex spaces, our team brings together diverse backgrounds and skill sets to deliver practical, well-executed results.
Our mission is to stand apart by doing things the right way: honest conversations, solid craftsmanship, and outcomes our clients can rely on.
Job Summary:
We are seeking a talented and detail-oriented Structural Engineer with strong experience in the metal building and construction industry to join our growing team. In this role, you will design, analyze, and optimize structural systems for pre-engineered metal buildings (PEMB), light gauge, and conventional steel structures related to construction projects. You will ensure all designs are safe, efficient, code-compliant, and aligned with client requirements and project budgets.
This is a hands-on position that offers the opportunity to work on a wide variety of commercial, industrial, agricultural, and institutional metal building projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and analyze structural components and systems for pre-engineered metal buildings, including primary and secondary framing, bracing, foundations, and connections.
Perform structural calculations for gravity loads, wind, seismic, snow, and other environmental loads per applicable building codes (IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, AISI, MBMA, etc.).
Prepare detailed structural drawings, calculations, and technical reports for permit submittals and construction.
Review and seal engineering documents as a licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
Collaborate with architects, contractors, metal building manufacturers, and internal teams to develop cost-effective and constructible designs.
Evaluate existing structures for modifications, expansions, or retrofits.
Provide technical support during construction, including responding to RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, and conducting site visits/inspections when required.
Optimize designs for material efficiency, erection speed, and overall project cost.
Stay current with industry standards, new technologies, and innovations in metal building systems.
Mentor junior engineers and designers as needed.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering (Master’s degree preferred).
Professional Engineer (PE) license in the state(s) of practice (or willingness to obtain).
3+ years of structural engineering experience, with a strong focus on metal buildings / pre-engineered steel structures.
In-depth knowledge of steel design (AISC 360), cold-formed steel (AISI), and metal building-specific design practices.
Proficiency with structural analysis software (e.g., STAAD.Pro, RISA-3D, SAP2000) and metal building design software (e.g., MBS, Vertex, or similar).
Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, or Tekla Structures.
Thorough understanding of building codes, wind/seismic design, and load paths in low-rise metal structures.
What We Offer
• Competitive salary based on experience
• 401(k)
• Paid time off + holidays
• Opportunities for growth in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
• Health Benefits: Health, dental, and vision coverage available through an HRA (Health Reimbursement Arrangement). Employees are reimbursed up to a set dollar amount per month depending on the plan they choose.
