Atlanta Ann Arbor Chattanooga Orlando Raleigh Portland Boston Irvine Walnut Creek Staff Electrical Engineer with high voltage substation design experience to serve as a single-discipline lead on electrical substation projects for utility clients. This role supports full project lifecycle delivery from engineering through EPC, covering projects up to 765kV. A Professional Engineer (PE) license is required.
Responsibilities
Function as Technical Specialist or Project Lead, providing coordination, guidance, and expertise on assigned substation projects
Support detailed engineering design and EPC on substation projects ranging up to 765kV
Develop protection and control design deliverables: protective relays, panel arrangements, one-line/three-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, relay panel wiring, and equipment wiring for HV substations
Develop physical design deliverables: yard layout plans, grounding, lightning protection, control building arrangements, and auxiliary AC/DC power systems
Perform and oversee quality review of electrical substation design packages
Prepare electrical equipment specifications and Bills of Materials (BOM)
Manage design budgets and schedules
Coordinate and communicate with clients, vendors, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders
Present proposals, designs, and project updates
Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members
Support business development and pursuit activities
Travel as needed to client/vendor offices and project sites for design reviews, construction coordination, and field verification
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited program
Minimum 5 years of related experience in electrical substation design
Professional Engineer (PE) license required
Ability to complete pre-employment screening (background check, drug screen, MVR)
Preferred Qualifications
High voltage substation design experience in Physical design and/or Protection & Controls
Experience as project lead and technical specialist on utility substation projects
QA/QC review experience
Strong client communication and multidisciplinary coordination skills
Proficiency with Bluebeam Revu and Microsoft Office Suite
