Aerostar, a business unit of TCOM is seeking an experienced Staff Electrical Engineer to design, develop, test, and support advanced electrical systems and equipment. This role plays a key part in the development of complex electronic systems and requires strong technical depth, hands-on engineering capability, and the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
The engineer will analyze and interpret technical specifications, create electrical schematics and system designs, and ensure compliance with applicable industry standards and regulatory requirements. Responsibilities include conducting experiments, troubleshooting complex issues, and delivering solutions that improve the efficiency, performance, and reliability of electrical systems.
This position supports the design and development of advanced electronic and radar-based systems involving high-speed digital interfaces, embedded processors, FPGA-based architectures, and mixed-signal electronics. The ideal candidate is comfortable moving between system-level architecture, detailed circuit design, lab validation, and cross-functional technical collaboration.
Core Electrical Engineering Functions
Research, evaluate, develop, and test electronic systems and subsystems involving GHz RF circuits, FPGAs, microprocessors, and mixed-signal data converters.
Design and develop high-speed digital circuitry including PCIe, DDR4/5, Ethernet, SGMII, and USB interfaces.
Design and integrate low-speed communication interfaces such as SPI and I²C.
Design differential signaling circuits and embedded system architectures.
Develop FPGA logic using VHDL/HDL as part of system-level designs.
Create schematics and PCB layouts using Altium and support the full PCB lifecycle including simulation, manufacturing, and testing.
Design, build, and document test setups, test cables, and test procedures for verification of electronic systems and subsystems.
Apply mathematical and engineering principles to electrical designs and system architecture.
Perform testing and validation to ensure reliability, performance, and safety standards are achieved.
Troubleshoot complex electrical issues in prototype and fielded systems and determine root causes with corrective design improvements.
Perform or support installation, integration, and testing of products, systems, or processes.
Support hands-on hardware development activities including prototype bring-up, test instrumentation setup, and lab debugging.
Develop and maintain design documentation throughout the product lifecycle.
Collaborate with internal engineering teams as well as external customers, suppliers, and partners.
Support proposal and quotation activities when technical input is required.
Maintain a safe and organized lab and workspace.
Continuously improve and promote adherence to the division’s ISO quality management system.
Stay current with emerging engineering technologies and industry practices.
Provide technical mentorship and guidance to other engineers and technicians.
Core Responsibilities
Demonstrate deep technical expertise within an area of specialization while maintaining working knowledge across related disciplines.
Work on complex technical challenges requiring advanced engineering judgment and planning.
Provide technical leadership on critical engineering projects.
Define project objectives and technical strategies to achieve desired outcomes.
Exercise independent judgment within broadly defined policies and engineering practices.
Lead or plan work assignments for engineers and technicians when appropriate.
Serve as a recognized technical specialist in complex engineering and business matters.
Work autonomously on advanced technical programs requiring state-of-the-art knowledge.
Education & Experience
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, in a field related to specific position.
Advanced engineer with 8-12 years of career experience, with bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or master’s degree. Or experience in lieu of education.
Average Years of Experience: 7-12.
Required Qualifications
Successful candidates typically bring a strong foundation in modern electronic system design and demonstrate the ability to contribute meaningfully in a fast-paced engineering environment.
Experience In Many Of The Following Areas Is Expected
High-speed digital circuit design (PCIe, DDR4/5, SGMII, Ethernet, USB)
Low-speed digital interfaces (SPI, I²C)
Differential signaling and high-speed signal integrity considerations
FPGA design using VHDL/HDL

Schematic capture and PCB design using Altium
Version control systems (Git, Subversion, or similar)
Electrical lab instrumentation including oscilloscopes, power supplies, logic analyzers, and data acquisition systems
Hands-on lab development, bring-up, and debugging of electronic hardware
Hands-on hardware assembly skills including precision soldering, component rework, and prototype modification
Technical documentation and design authorship
In Addition, Strong Candidates Demonstrate
Informal technical leadership and mentorship of other engineers
Strong ownership of engineering deliverables
Clear communication and documentation skills
Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision in a collaborative environment
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in the following areas would be beneficial but is not required:
Power electronics or power system design
RF circuit design and analysis
Use of spectrum analyzers, vector network analyzers, and signal generators
Aerospace or ruggedized electronics design considerations, including thermal management and environmental constraints
Thermal design considerations for high-performance electronics (heat dissipation, conduction cooling, or thermal analysis)
Additional Requirements
Must meet eligibility requirements for access to government classified information
U.S. Persons required for this position
Comfortable working in a hands-on lab environment
Travel may occasionally be required
Commitment to continued learning and professional development
TCOM offers a variety of benefits, including health and disability insurance, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts/HSAs, EAP, tuition reimbursement, parental leave, paid time off (PTO), and company-paid holidays.
