Socode are pleased to represent a medical-device company developing advanced robotic systems, in their search for a Staff Electrical Engineer to join their growing engineering team. This is a hands-on senior individual contributor role, taking technical ownership of electronic subsystems from concept and rapid prototyping through integration, verification and release, while providing technical leadership across multidisciplinary engineering teams.

The desired Staff Electronics Engineer will have the following experience:
Strong analogue, digital and mixed-signal electronics fundamentals, with significant experience developing electronic products from concept through prototype, integration and release.
Strong schematic capture, PCB design, layout, bring-up and practical laboratory debugging skills.
Experience developing mixed-signal designs incorporating microcontrollers or embedded processors, communication interfaces, sensors, motor drives and power electronics.
Hands-on experience building, modifying and testing prototype hardware, including PCB assembly and rework.
Strong experience taking technical ownership of substantial electronic designs, subsystems or work packages.
Experience working within cross-functional product development teams, with the ability to work across mechanical, software, systems, clinical and manufacturing engineering.
A degree in Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience, with 8+ years of experience in Electrical Engineering.
Candidates with experience in medical devices or other regulated/safety-critical products, robotics, motor control, power electronics, complex electromechanical systems, EMC or electrical safety will be considerably favoured.

What will they be doing?:
Design and develop electronic subsystems, covering schematic capture, PCB design and layout, component selection, bring-up, debugging and verification.
Take technical ownership of electronic subsystems from early concept and prototype iteration through integration, verification and release.
Work across engineering disciplines to develop integrated electromechanical systems that meet product, user and clinical requirements.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers and technicians, particularly through design, integration, debugging and verification activities.
Design and document wiring harnesses, cable assemblies and electrical interfaces.
Build, modify and test prototype hardware, including PCB assembly and rework.
Support system integration, root-cause investigation, EMC troubleshooting and design verification.
Produce clear engineering documentation supporting product development, design controls and manufacturing.
Coordinate with suppliers and provide technical input into design reviews, architecture discussions and development planning.
Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering practices, standards and ways of working.
