Software Engineer (Full Stack, Backend Focused)
About the Opportunity
Our client is a mission-driven Venture Studio that builds innovative software solutions to empower underserved populations, eliminate communication barriers, and promote equity. Their current portfolio includes digital health products that dramatically reduce medical appointment no-shows, an online bilingual early education platform supporting home-school connections, and a cutting-edge suite of tools that helps major health systems manage language barriers for limited English proficiency patients.
In this role, you will join an agile engineering team that bridges the gap between research-driven data and real-world impact. The engineering culture is built for speed and autonomy, meaning you can expect to see your code deployed to production on your very first day.
How You Will Work
User-Centric Execution: There are two primary focuses for engineers here: interacting directly with users and shipping solutions to solve their immediate challenges.
Rapid Iteration: Feedback loops are incredibly short. The team regularly builds and iterates on solutions live in front of users, deploying to production multiple times a day with the backing of a robust, automated QA framework.
Modern Engineering Standards: Code reviews prioritize clarity of intent, expressivity, and conciseness. You will have access to a rich repository of customer discovery data to truly understand the audience you are building for.
Must Haves
Core Fundamentals: A strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, and software design.
Backend Expertise: Expert knowledge of Java Spring Boot or Ruby on Rails.
Frontend Expertise: Expert knowledge of Angular or React.
Mobile Expertise: Functional knowledge of SwiftUI with Swift or Jetpack Compose with Kotlin.
Architecture: Deep understanding of MVC and RESTful architectures and practical system design.
Advanced Workflows: Advanced proficiency leveraging AI development tools like Claude to build in chained phases, utilize memory, write custom skills, and manage subagents within your routine coding workflows.
Version Control: Excellent Git proficiency, with the ability to handle complex rebases smoothly without relying on external assistance.
Nice to Haves
4 plus years of professional software engineering experience.
BA, BS, MA, or higher degree in Computer Science.
Solid understanding of Inversion of Control and Dependency Injection.
