Software Engineer II — Integrations

Permanent, Full-Time
100% Remote (US-based candidates only)
$152,650 base salary (total comp TBC)

About the Client
One of our clients is a US-based technology non-profit in the healthcare space, with over a decade of experience building patient engagement solutions used by safety-net organisations across the country. Their platform reaches tens of millions of patients and sits at the intersection of clinical data, messaging, and interoperability. The engineering team is fully distributed and moves quickly.

Role Overview
The integrations team connects the client's platform to external healthcare systems - EHRs, databases, and clinical workflows. As a Software Engineer II, you will build and maintain API-to-API integrations, direct database connections, and FHIR/HL7-based workflows. This is an execution-focused role: you will own defined scopes of work end-to-end, collaborate closely with senior engineers for design guidance, and interact with customers where needed. You will report to the Director of Engineering.

Responsibilities
Design, build, and maintain integrations using Rhapsody, following established engineering best practices
Communicate with customers and external technical partners to gather integration requirements and translate them into working solutions
Contribute to the development of scalable healthcare integration architecture alongside the wider team
Write technical documentation and provide training so integrations can be monitored and troubleshot effectively
Work with Product to contribute technical input during solution definition, including participation in requirements documentation
Take part in on-call (PagerDuty) responsibilities on a rotating basis
Contribute to team rituals including kickoffs, retrospectives, and technical debt reviews

Required Skills and Experience
3+ years of hands-on software engineering experience with JavaScript and at least one other programming language
3+ years building, maintaining, and scaling backend systems, APIs, and services
Solid fundamentals across the software development lifecycle — design patterns, object-oriented architecture, coding best practices
Experience working in teams where automated testing is a standard part of development
Strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly in a fully remote environment
Must be based within the United States

Nice to Have
Experience developing healthcare integrations using FHIR and/or HL7 standards
Familiarity with mainstream EHR platforms such as Epic, eClinicalWorks, AthenaHealth, or NextGen
Experience with JavaScript/TypeScript, Ruby on Rails, Postgres, or Google Cloud Platform
Hands-on experience with Mirth and/or Rhapsody Integration Engine
Background working alongside data teams and applying foundational data concepts
