Job Title: Software Engineer
Job Description
We are seeking a Software Engineer to design and maintain industrial-grade embedded Linux applications. This role involves customizing Linux distributions and developing device drivers and kernel modules. The ideal candidate will work closely with hardware and firmware engineers, developing interfaces to external applications and supporting the product lifecycle from concept to production.
Responsibilities
Design and maintain industrial-grade embedded Linux applications using C/C++ and Python.
Customize Linux distributions with Yocto.
Develop and debug device drivers and kernel modules.
Interface with hardware peripherals including UART, SPI, I2C, USB, and Ethernet.
Collaborate with firmware engineers to understand MCU interactions.
Develop interfaces to external applications through protocols such as SNMP.
Create PC applications/tools for configuration, visualization, and firmware updates.
Support the full product lifecycle from concept to production.
Work closely with hardware and firmware teams to understand schematics and datasheets.
Validate system behavior and signal integrity.
Debug issues across hardware/software boundaries.
Interface with microcontrollers and SoCs.
Perform system-level debugging using tools like GDB, JTAG, and logic analyzers.
Optimize performance for CPU, memory, and I/O.
Occasionally travel for supplier visits, testing, or customer support.
Essential Skills
Strong programming skills in C/C++.
Experience with Embedded Linux systems and tools.
Knowledge of communication protocols such as UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, and Ethernet.
Experience with version control systems like Git.
Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science.
3+ years of experience in embedded systems development.
Focus on reliability, safety, and manufacturability in product design.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Somerset, NJ.
Pay And Benefits
The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $43.27/hr.
