Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Silicon Photonics Modeling Engineer to develop and validate photonic device models for next-generation Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs). This role focuses on device modeling, simulation, Process Design Kit (PDK) development, compact model generation, and design enablement for high-speed optical interconnects, data center networking, AI infrastructure, telecommunications, and advanced computing applications.
The ideal candidate will have expertise in silicon photonics, optical device physics, electromagnetic simulation, photonic design automation, compact modeling, and photonic PDK development while working closely with device engineering, process integration, packaging, CAD, and product engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
Develop compact models for silicon photonic devices, including waveguides, modulators, photodetectors, couplers, splitters, and ring resonators.
Build and maintain Photonic Process Design Kits (PDKs) supporting Photonic Integrated Circuit (PIC) design.
Perform electromagnetic and optical simulations for photonic device optimization and validation.
Correlate simulation results with silicon measurements to improve model accuracy and predictive capability.
Support design enablement for optical transceivers, co-packaged optics, and high-speed optical communication products.
Collaborate with Device Engineering, Process Integration, CAD, Packaging, Test Engineering, and Product Development teams.
Develop reusable photonic design libraries, compact models, and automation methodologies.
Support technology qualification, design rule validation, and manufacturing readiness.
Investigate optical performance issues through simulation, characterization, and root cause analysis.
Optimize photonic devices for insertion loss, bandwidth, power consumption, thermal performance, and manufacturability.
Develop automation scripts for simulation, model extraction, and PDK validation.
Prepare technical documentation, application notes, and design guidelines for internal and customer use.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Photonics, Optical Engineering, Physics, Applied Physics, or a related discipline. Ph.D. is an advantage.
5 12 years of experience in Silicon Photonics, Photonic Device Modeling, Optical Design, or PIC Development.
Strong understanding of optical device physics and semiconductor photonic technologies.
Experience working with photonic integrated circuits and optical communication systems.
