Job Title: Senior Test Engineer

Reports to: Manager, Compliance Engineering

Department: Engineering

Work Model: Full-time, On-site – 20%+ Travel Required

Schedule: Monday – Friday 8am-5pm

Job Summary

This position is responsible for coordinating and performing qualification testing on commercial and military grade rugged electronics. Environmental, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), power, and safety qualification are used to support product development and validation, marketing, sales, and manufacturing initiatives to prove design acceptability and obtain various compliance certifications. In addition, the Senior Test Engineering will also be held accountable for peer reviews, department mentoring, and leading small project groups.

Essential Functions

Advanced understanding of compliance test standards; conducting and witnessing tests; performing diagnostic procedures; measuring performance; analyzing and evaluating findings; performing forensic analysis of failures; troubleshooting failures; supervising sub-contractors.
Attains compliance by isolating and resolving non-compliance issues; recommending product and process changes; initiating engineering change notices
Advanced understanding and completes compliance reports by collecting and summarizing measurement data and trends
Advanced assistance for development of test strategies with the Systems team
Advanced understanding and development of test plans
Effective coordination with external laboratories for development of test procedures
Advanced assistance with engineers and designers through product characterization and testing
Advanced assistance in product design, development, and production
Provides testing input during design and development phase
Inspects products and testing processes for flaws and identify areas of improvement
Builds and sets up equipment for testing
Prepares and conducts experiments
Conducts tests and collects data
Calculates or records results during experiments
Assists in coordinating with external, 3rd party laboratories for quotation and scheduling
Provides oversight for internal testing and external, 3rd party testing
Coordinates witnesses for observed testing

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

Advanced knowledge of mechanical or electrical systems required
Proficient with the design and build of wire harnesses and cables
Proficient with how cables are routed in a computer-based system
Advanced knowledge of computer hardware and systems integration
Experience working in a fast-paced environment
Advanced knowledge of compliance and testing industry standards
Advanced understanding of commonly practiced concepts related to Electrical or Mechanical Engineering theory
Current and past industry standards for military, automotive industry, or industrial environments
Use of full range instrumentation including oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers
Operate large stationary machinery including thermotrons, vibe tables, or EMC antenna arrays
Multitask to meet several simultaneous project milestones up to and including completion of several projects
Work both independently and in a team environment with the ability to change priorities as needed
Build, troubleshoot, and debug computer-based systems including network switches, firewalls, rack mounted monitors KVMs, or rack mounted UPS
Ability to use various software programs related to engineering theory (Altium Designer, AutoDesk inventor, AutoCAD, LT SPICE)
Read and compare technical data sheets
Effectively lead small (1-3 member) teams on well-defined projects with moderate supervision, oversight, and coaching provided
Identify departmental process deficiencies, propose viable solutions, and implement appropriate corrective action(s) with moderate managerial support provided

Required Qualifications

Must be a US Person (US Citizen, person granted US Permanent Resident Card or any individual who is granted status as a "protected person”)
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science 5+ years of Engineering experience or related engineering field or at least 10+ years of Mechanical Engineering experience in lieu of a degree
Current valid US driver’s license with good driving record

Preferred Qualifications

5+ years of electrical or mechanical component building experience
5+ years of CAD software related work
Extensive knowledge of computer equipment (PC, firewall, switch, data acquisition systems, UPS, server rack equipment, etc.)
Extensive knowledge of advanced testing equipment (bode plot generators, oscilloscopes, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, hall-effect probes, etc.)
1+ year of leadership experience

Working Conditions

Work is primarily performed in an office environment. Occasional exposure to manufacturing floor and testing environments. May require lifting up to 25 lbs, standing for extended periods during product testing.
