Senior Test Engineer
Location: San Jose, CA (Onsite)
About the Role
An established U.S.-based electronics manufacturing organization is seeking a Senior Test Engineer to support deployment, optimization, and sustainment of production test systems. This role is ideal for someone who excels in a hands-on manufacturing environment and enjoys collaborating with customers and internal teams to ensure high reliability and performance for advanced electronic products used in mission‑critical industries such as aerospace, defense, and other high‑reliability sectors.
This position requires the ability to meet U.S. export control eligibility requirements (ITAR/EAR). A U.S. Person includes U.S. citizens, U.S. permanent residents (Green Card holders), and certain protected individuals defined under 8 U.S.C.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate directly with customer engineering teams to deploy and maintain test equipment, test scripts, and production test processes.
Support test operators with equipment setup and troubleshooting during production runs.
Conduct recurring discussions with customers regarding yields, engineering updates, and process improvement initiatives.
Track and analyze test yields; identify root causes of failures and drive corrective actions.
Perform functional testing of complex electronic assemblies as required.
Assist in diagnosing and resolving Functional Circuit Test (FCT) issues on production hardware.
Utilize standard electronic test equipment such as DMMs, oscilloscopes, signal generators, and power supplies to troubleshoot failures.
Lead Return Material Authorization (RMA) investigations and execute corrective actions.
Support New Product Introduction (NPI) activities including test script verification, test plan execution, and readiness reviews.
Skills & Abilities
Strong ability to interpret assembly drawings, schematics, and bills of materials within a manufacturing environment.
Proficiency with computer systems, Linux command-line operations, and basic networking concepts.
Familiarity with Python or other scripting languages used in test automation.
Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, collaborative production environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
Minimum 5 years of experience in Test Engineering within an Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) environment (required).
Working knowledge of AS9100, ITAR, and CUI documentation practices.
