About The Role
We’re seeking a Structural Engineer with experience in industrial equipment, structural steel, or fabricated systems to support the design and validation of large, engineered cooling systems and heat exchanger assemblies.
This is a hands-on role working closely with fabrication, manufacturing, and mechanical teams to bring engineered-to-order equipment from concept through build.
Ideal for someone who enjoys applying structural fundamentals to real-world equipment and steel structures—not commercial buildings—while balancing analysis, constructability, and production constraints.
What Makes This Role Different
Work on custom-engineered industrial equipment, not commercial buildings
Direct collaboration with fabrication and manufacturing teams
Visibility across the full lifecycle: design → build → ship
Strong emphasis on practical, buildable design
Key Responsibilities
Structural Design & Analysis:
Design and analyze structural steel frames, skids, platforms, pipe racks, and support structures for industrial equipment
Evaluate loading conditions including dead, live, wind, seismic, thermal expansion, transportation, lifting, and installation loads
Design base frames, saddles, beams, columns, bracing systems, lifting lugs, and tie-down features
Perform hand calculations and finite element analysis (FEA) to validate structural behavior
Optimize designs for weight, cost, and manufacturability while meeting stress and deflection criteria
Ensure compliance with AISC, ASME, API, AWS, and customer-specific requirements
Prepare and review structural calculation packages for internal and external review
Manufacturing & Fabrication Support:
Partner with fabrication teams to ensure designs are practical, buildable, and cost-effective
Review shop drawings and resolve fabrication-related issues
Support lifting, rigging, and transportation planning for large assemblies
Coordinate with mechanical, thermal, process, and drafting teams
Provide input during design reviews and customer discussions
Quality, Safety & Continuous Improvement:
Participate in internal design reviews and lessons learned
Identify opportunities to standardize structural details
Support root cause analysis for structural issues
Promote safety, accuracy, and engineering accountability
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering (structural focus)
3-8 years of post-graduate experience in structural steel design within industrial, manufacturing, or equipment environments
Experience with skids, platforms, pipe supports, or heavy industrial structures strongly preferred
Strong understanding of steel design, welded connections, bolted joints, and load paths
Proficiency with AISC-based design methods and structural analysis tools (ANSYS, STAAD, SAP2000, or similar)
Ability to produce clear, defensible calculation packages
Preferred:
Experience with heat exchangers, cooling systems, or similar industrial equipment
Work Environment
Primarily office-based with regular interaction in a manufacturing facility. PPE required on the shop floor (safety glasses, hearing protection, safety footwear). Environment includes typical fabrication conditions such as noise, dust, and temperature variation. Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs. may be required.
Nesco Resource offers a comprehensive benefits package for our associates, which includes a MEC (Minimum Essential Coverage) plan that encompasses Medical, Vision, Dental, 401K, and EAP (Employee Assistance Program) services.
