About Atomic Machines
Atomic Machines is ushering in a new era of micromanufacturing with its Matter Compiler™ technology. This full-stack technology enables new classes of micromachines to be designed and built by offering manufacturing processes and a materials library that is inaccessible to semiconductor manufacturing methods. It promises to unlock MEMS manufacturing for the many device classes frustrated by semiconductor methods and to open up entirely new product classes. The Matter Compiler™ technology fully realizes the digital manufacturing dream: bits and raw materials go in, and complete, functional micromachines come out. The Atomic Machines team has also created an exciting first device—one that was only made possible by the existence of the Matter Compiler™ technology—that we will be unveiling to the world soon.
Our offices are in Emeryville and Santa Clara, California.
About the Role
We are looking for a well-rounded, experienced Senior Electrical Engineer who enjoys working in an agile environment. We expect our engineers to be self-motivated, willing, and capable of making decisions based on incomplete information, and to have a get-it-done attitude.
The main line of work will be to build and integrate machine control systems for our custom manufacturing nodes. Our system is built around a multiprocessor architecture, with distinct processors handling networking, general machine control, and specialty controls such as vision and motion. Interconnect selection, prototype cabling, and bring-up firmware are also important aspects of the job.
We emphasize modularity for reuse to speed up subsequent builds of nodes with similar needs.
What You'll Do:
Participate in system architecture definition and drive electrical architecture
Design and build custom electronics for our automated manufacturing systems
Integrate third-party electronics
Support the building of engineering fixtures
Create and maintain component and module libraries for reuse
Generate manufacturing data and interact with vendors
Work closely with embedded systems, software, and mechanical engineering teams
What You'll Need:
6-10+ years experience as an Electrical Engineer
Maker mentality—being hands-on to quickly build, integrate, and test proof of concepts
Schematic entry, layout, and library management (Altium Designer preferred)
Excellent bring-up and debugging skills
Ability to write bring-up code for processors in C/C++ and test scripts in Python
Strong background in mixed-signal circuit design
Familiarity with a range of sensors and actuators
SPICE simulation knowledge
SMD soldering skills and familiarity with test and measurement equipment
Good working knowledge of signal integrity, EMI, and ESD handling
Cable harness design
Good documentation habits
First-principles thinking with sound instincts for strategic tradeoffs.
B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or related field
Bonus Points For:
Motor control experience
Flex PCB design
High reliability design
Expertise in FMEA
The compensation for this position also includes equity and benefits.
Salary Range: $190,000 USD - $230,000 USD
