Job Title: Senior Research & Development Engineer
Reports To: Director of Research & Development
Job Type: Full-Time
Department: Research & Development
About the Role
The Senior Research & Development Engineer will lead and execute assigned product development activities supporting the design and development of innovative medical device products from early concepts through prototype development, testing, design verification, and manufacturing readiness.
This position will play a key role in translating engineering concepts into practical, manufacturable, and reliable solutions while partnering closely with R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory, Operations, and other cross-functional teams.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on, technically strong engineer who enjoys solving complex engineering challenges, developing and evaluating product designs, working directly with development and manufacturing teams, and taking ownership of projects in a fast-paced, regulated environment.
The role will initially support projects within interventional medical technologies, with opportunities to contribute to new product development, prototyping, engineering testing, design improvements, manufacturing support, and continuous product innovation.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and execute assigned product development activities from concept through testing and manufacturing readiness.
Develop, prototype, test, and improve medical device products, components, and technologies.
Provide hands-on engineering support during prototype and manufacturing builds.
Troubleshoot product and process issues and develop effective technical solutions.
Support design verification, validation, testing, risk management, and design control activities.
Support NPI, design transfer, and manufacturing readiness activities.
Prepare and maintain engineering drawings, specifications, test documentation, and technical reports.
Analyze test and manufacturing data to support engineering decisions and product improvements.
Collaborate with R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory, and Operations teams.
Identify opportunities to improve product performance, manufacturability, quality, and cost.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineering personnel.
Contribute to innovation, invention disclosures, and intellectual property development.
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
5+ years of progressive engineering experience in R&D, product development, medical devices, manufacturing engineering, or a related technical environment.
Experience with product development, prototyping, engineering testing, and troubleshooting.
Ability to analyze technical problems and develop practical engineering solutions.
Experience working cross-functionally with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Operations, or Regulatory teams.
Ability to independently manage projects, priorities, and deadlines.
Strong technical, analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to work effectively in a regulated, detail-oriented environment
Preferred
Medical device or other highly regulated product experience.
Knowledge of medical device design controls and quality system requirements.
Experience with design verification and validation, risk management, NPI, or design transfer.
Experience with engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
CAD experience, such as SolidWorks or similar software.
Experience mentoring or providing technical direction to junior engineers.
What We Offer
