About us:

Aeva’s mission is to bring the next wave of perception to a broad range of applications from automated driving to industrial robotics, consumer electronics, consumer health, security, and beyond. Aeva is transforming autonomy with its groundbreaking sensing and perception technology that integrates all key LiDAR components onto a silicon photonics chip in a compact module. Aeva 4D LiDAR sensors uniquely detect instant velocity in addition to 3D position, allowing autonomous devices like vehicles and robots to make more intelligent and safe decisions.

Role Overview:

Aeva is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our growing team! This individual will design our optoelectronic products and carry them through the entire product lifecycle. They will be a key member in the development of new products from concept to final builds, partnering with cross-functional teams along the way.

What you'll be doing:

Development of new products including execution on concept, design, drawings, vendor selection, part evaluation, and product builds

Developing cutting edge Silicon Photonics (SiP) optoelectronic devices

Development of free space optics for optoelectronic devices

Detailed Tolerance Analyses of components and assemblies

Maintenance, design, testing, and improvement of existing products

Product designs utilizing miniature optics, sub-micron alignments, and micron level passive placements

Fixture design and development ranging from prototype to production

Integration of mechanical, optical, and electrical components

Lead reviews of mechanical development activities

Interacting with CMs and suppliers to provide mechanical support for manufacturing of parts and products

What you have:

Minimum of BS degree in Mechanical Engineering with 5+ years of experience in related engineering roles

Experience with detail design, development and validation of mechanical assemblies for prototype volumes to mass manufacturing

Solid understanding of design for assembly and integration in complex optoelectronic devices including tolerance stack analysis

Knowledge in manufacturing processes for assembly of optoelectronic devices (die attach, wirebond, active alignment, hermetic sealing)

Experience in design for manufacturing across the entire product life cycle from concept thru volume production

Knowledge of part manufacturing processes such as plastic injection molding, machining, thin film and thick film ceramics, and HTCC ceramics is desirable

Nice to have:

Prototype and production equipment design experience

Manufacturing experience of optoelectronic devices

Geometric optics knowledge

Experience in semiconductor packaging / assembly processes and design rules

What's in it for you:

Be part of a fast paced and dynamic team

Very competitive compensation and meaningful stock grants

Exceptional benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, and more
