Senior Motor Drive and Power Electronics Engineer
El Segundo, CA | $180,000–$210,000 base + equity | Onsite
A confidential space and defence engineering company is looking for a Senior Motor Drive and Power Electronics Engineer to develop the drives, controllers and power-conversion hardware behind a high-performance spacecraft payload.
This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who understands both the motor-control algorithms and the hardware required to make them work in the real world.
What you will do
Design and develop motor drives, controllers, actuators, inverters and power-conversion systems
Model and simulate electromechanical and power systems to support design decisions and system sizing
Develop and implement BLDC/PMSM control algorithms, including field-oriented control
Deploy controls work onto DSP, MCU or FPGA targets
Build and use HIL/SIL environments to test, refine and validate designs
Work across electrical, software and systems engineering to take prototypes through development and test
Make clear technical calls around performance, cost, risk and build-versus-buy decisions
What you will bring
7+ years of motor-drive, controls and power-electronics experience
Strong hands-on experience with BLDC/PMSM motors, three-phase drives, inverters and field-oriented control
MATLAB/Simulink modelling and control-loop design experience
Experience taking algorithms through to embedded hardware deployment
Confidence debugging hardware/software interfaces and testing early-stage prototypes
A practical, systems-level approach to solving difficult electromechanical problems
Space experience is useful but not essential. Strong engineers from EV, eVTOL, robotics, industrial motion control, aerospace or high-performance electrification backgrounds will be considered.
Applicants must be eligible to work with US export-controlled information and able to obtain and maintain a US security clearance.
