Senior Member of Technical Staff – Electrical / Electro-Optical Engineering
Employment Type: Full-Time
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM
Compensation: $150,000–$160,000 base salary + 6% annual bonus
Position Overview
The Senior Member of Technical Staff will be responsible for the electrical design and development of next-generation, high-reliability products intended for undersea applications.
This role focuses on the design of analog and digital electronic circuits, including systems utilizing microcontrollers, FPGAs, photodiodes, lasers, and other electro-optical components. The engineer will work closely with electrical, mechanical, optical, and reliability engineering teams to develop highly reliable, fault-tolerant systems capable of operating in demanding subsea environments.
The position will also support product qualification, verification, factory test development, prototype evaluation, and the transition of new designs into manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities
Design and simulate analog and digital electronic circuits.
Develop circuitry incorporating microcontrollers, FPGAs, and electro-optical components.
Support the design of high-reliability, fault-tolerant electronic systems for undersea applications.
Develop verification and qualification strategies for new product designs.
Plan, coordinate, and execute product qualification testing.
Develop test plans and procedures for design verification and factory testing.
Support the introduction and transfer of new designs into manufacturing.
Perform hands-on prototype development, testing, troubleshooting, and evaluation of electronic components, circuits, and assemblies.
Conduct laboratory experiments and analyze test data to assess design performance and reliability.
Support component selection and evaluation for high-reliability applications.
Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, optical, manufacturing, and reliability engineering teams.
Develop productive working relationships with internal stakeholders and external suppliers.
Identify technical risks, recommend solutions, and drive issues through resolution.
Maintain accurate engineering documentation, test records, and technical reports.
Ensure work is completed in accordance with company procedures, quality requirements, and professional standards.
Required Qualifications
Master’s degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
10+ years of relevant engineering experience.
Strong background in electrical or mechanical engineering, technical data analysis, and computer programming.
Experience with analog and digital circuit design and simulation.
Strong hands-on laboratory and experimental engineering skills.
Ability to solder and perform electronic circuit assembly, wiring, and prototype development.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
Demonstrated ability to independently identify technical issues and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong attention to detail and proven ability to execute complex technical work successfully.
Ability to work effectively both independently and within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Preferred / Highly Relevant Experience
Experience with single-mode optical fiber.
Experience with fiber-optic components and systems.
Knowledge of optical measurement and characterization techniques.
Experience working with photodiodes, lasers, and electro-optical systems.
Experience designing electronics containing microcontrollers and FPGAs.
Background in high-reliability or fault-tolerant electronic design.
Experience developing verification, qualification, and environmental test plans.
Experience supporting new product introduction and transition to manufacturing.
Experience working with external component or technology suppliers.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a senior-level engineer with deep hands-on expertise in electronics, electro-optics, laboratory testing, and high-reliability product development. This individual should be comfortable moving between circuit design, prototype development, testing, data analysis, qualification, and manufacturing support while collaborating closely with multidisciplinary technical teams.
