Piper Companies is seeking a Senior Hardware Engineer - Systems to join a cutting‑edge technology organization within the advanced computing and networking industry onsite near San Jose, CA Monday through Friday. The ideal Senior Hardware Systems Engineer is a highly experienced engineer who enjoys owning complex hardware designs from concept through full product release in a fast‑paced, hands‑on environment.
Responsibilities of the Senior Hardware Engineer - Systems:
Own system‑level hardware definition, design, qualification, and release for high‑performance computing and networking platforms
Design and integrate optical interfaces including SFP+ and QSFP+ modules
Develop and review high‑speed interfaces such as Ethernet, SerDes, and PCIe with a strong focus on signal and power integrity
Collaborate closely with architecture, semiconductor, software, manufacturing, and external partner teams
Support FPGA design considerations, power systems, clocking strategies, and mechanical/thermal constraints
Lead hardware design reviews and ensure adherence to best practices and development processes
Drive products through validation, qualification, and successful shipment to customers
Participate in phone interviews and technical discussions as part of cross‑functional project execution
Qualifications of the Senior Hardware Engineer - Systems:
10+ years of system‑level hardware development experience (server, computer, or networking systems preferred)
Extensive experience with optical interfaces such as SFP+ and QSFP+
Strong knowledge of high‑speed technologies including Ethernet, SerDes, and PCIe
Deep understanding of signal integrity, power integrity, and board‑level design challenges
Hands‑on experience with common control interfaces: MDIO, SPI, I2C, and JTAG
Solid understanding of FPGA design, power architecture, clocking, and mechanical/thermal considerations
Proven track record of delivering fully released and shipped hardware products
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering required (Master’s preferred)
Ability to work onsite in Saratoga, CA five days per week
Compensation for the Senior Hardware Engineer - Systems includes:
Base salary range: $200,000 – $260,000 depending on experience
Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), and paid time off
