Senior Hardware Engineer | High-Speed Electronic Systems
Austin, Texas | On-site

A highly successful technology-driven organisation is hiring a Senior Hardware Engineer to design and deliver custom, performance-critical electronic systems.

This is an end-to-end hardware ownership position within a multidisciplinary research and development team. You will take complex board-level systems from early architecture and schematic design through simulation, layout, bring-up, validation, manufacturing, and production deployment.

The team develops highly specialised hardware rather than adapting standard commercial products. Its systems operate at the limits of latency, density, signal integrity, thermal performance, and reliability, creating unusual engineering problems that require creativity and strong first-principles thinking.

This role needs more than a traditional PCB designer. We are looking for a senior engineer who understands how hardware, firmware, FPGA logic, and software interact as a complete system.

What you’ll be doing:
Designing high-speed, high-density electronic systems and custom PCBs
Owning hardware designs from initial concept through production release
Leading schematic capture, component selection, board architecture, and PCB layout
Performing signal integrity, power integrity, and electromagnetic simulations
Developing initial board bring-up and test code using Python, C, or HDL
Creating engineering requirements, validation strategies, and detailed test plans
Bringing up new hardware in the lab and debugging complex system-level issues
Validating high-speed interfaces using TDRs, BERTs, and real-time or sampling oscilloscopes
Interpreting eye diagrams and correlating physical measurements with simulation results
Researching new approaches to improve latency, throughput, scale, density, and thermal performance
Collaborating with FPGA, firmware, software, mechanical, and infrastructure engineers
Managing relationships with fabrication partners, component suppliers, and contract manufacturers
Supporting manufacturing, production testing, and post-release troubleshooting

What we’re looking for:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline
Typically 8+ years of professional hardware engineering experience
Advanced schematic capture and PCB layout experience using Cadence, Altium, Mentor Graphics, or an equivalent ECAD platform
Deep knowledge of signal integrity and power integrity principles
End-to-end product development experience, from architecture through production
Expertise with high-speed interfaces such as PCIe Gen3-6, 10/25G Ethernet, USB 3, or USB 4
Experience with lower-speed control and communication interfaces including I2C, SPI, JTAG, and USB
Strong laboratory validation and debugging skills
Working knowledge of Python
The ability to consider hardware challenges at both board and complete-system level
Strong technical judgement and a willingness to explore unconventional approaches

Highly relevant additional experience includes:
Ethernet and IEEE 802.3
Datacentre, networking, semiconductor, or consumer electronics hardware
C or C++ development
VHDL, Verilog, or other RTL experience
FPGA or firmware integration
Post-silicon bring-up and debugging
High-volume or complex electronics manufacturing

You will join a small, highly capable engineering group where senior engineers have significant autonomy, access to exceptional technical resources, and a direct influence on the performance of the final system.

Previous financial markets experience is not required. Engineers from semiconductor, networking, telecommunications, consumer electronics, aerospace, defence, datacentre hardware, and other high-performance environments are strongly encouraged to apply.

The position offers technically challenging work, ownership of unique hardware designs, close collaboration with excellent multidisciplinary engineers, and highly competitive compensation.
If you have built sophisticated high-speed hardware and want to work on problems where marginal performance improvements have a meaningful impact, apply directly or contact me privately for a confidential conversation.
