Sr. Hardware Engineer Lead – Embedded Electronics
Position Summary
We are seeking a Senior Hardware Engineer Lead to provide hands-on technical leadership in the design, development, and support of embedded electronic products across the full product lifecycle. This role is responsible for leading hardware design efforts and driving product improvements while collaborating cross-functionally to ensure products are reliable, manufacturable, compliant, and successfully transitioned from development into production and long-term support.
Key Responsibilities
Lead end-to-end design and development of embedded electronic products from concept through production (circuit design, component selection, prototyping, EVT/DVT/PVT, design reviews, and release).
Drive analog, digital, mixed-signal, power, sensor, wireless, and MCU-based hardware design, including schematic development and PCB layout review.
Own prototype bring-up, functional verification, environmental/reliability testing, EMC pre-compliance, debugging, and root cause analysis.
Provide hands-on support for production and sustaining engineering, including manufacturing issues, yield improvement, ECNs, and product enhancements.
Partner with Procurement/Supply Chain on component availability, alternates, obsolescence, supplier issues, second sourcing, and cost reduction initiatives.
Serve as senior technical escalation point for field failures, customer issues, and complex hardware/firmware troubleshooting.
Collaborate with Quality on design controls, CAPA, configuration management, ISO 9001 processes, and regulatory compliance (FCC, CE, UL, EMC, HazLoc, environmental testing).
Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and design guidance to engineering team members, including reviews, prioritization, and best practices.
Work cross-functionally with Firmware, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, and Operations to ensure successful product execution and support.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering (required)
Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (preferred)
3–7 years of experience in hardware design of embedded electronic products
Proven experience taking products from concept through production and sustaining phases
Experience working with manufacturing, production support, and cross-functional engineering teams
Technical Skills
Strong analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuit design experience
Embedded systems experience (MCUs) and interfaces: SPI, I²C, UART, CAN, USB, Ethernet
Power supply, sensor interface, and battery-powered system design
PCB design and review (Altium, PADS, OrCAD or similar tools)
Understanding of signal integrity, EMC/EMI, DFM, and DFT principles
Hands-on experience with lab equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, DMMs, power supplies)
Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis capability
Experience with validation, environmental testing, and regulatory compliance (FCC, CE, UL, EMC preferred)
Familiarity with ECN processes, configuration management, and engineering documentation
Exposure to embedded firmware development (preferred)
Working knowledge of Python, C, C++, and Linux systems (preferred)
