Job Summary
The Senior Hardware Design Engineer owns board-level hardware development from initial requirements through production release. The role is responsible for architecture development, component selection, schematic capture, PCB layout support, simulation, validation testing, troubleshooting, design reviews, and manufacturing release activities. This individual will work closely with Product Management, Mechanical Engineering, Software Development, FPGA Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and external vendors to deliver high-performance products for commercial, enterprise, medical, and mission-critical applications.
Key Responsibilities
Own complete board-level hardware design lifecycle from concept through production release.
Develop complex multi-sheet schematics using Altium Designer.
Support PCB layout, stack-up development, controlled impedance routing, differential pair tuning, and manufacturability reviews.
Define and review high-speed layout requirements for HDMI, DisplayPort, USB-C, Ethernet, PCIe, DDR memory, LVDS, MIPI, and related interfaces.
Perform signal integrity and power integrity analysis.
Utilize simulation tools to optimize high-speed channels and minimize signal degradation.
Design and review embedded power architectures, sequencing, protection circuits, and thermal considerations.
Lead board bring-up, validation testing, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis.
Utilize oscilloscopes, VNAs, TDRs, protocol analyzers, BERT tools, logic analyzers, and other lab equipment.
Support EMC, ESD, reliability, environmental, and compliance testing.
Prepare ECOs, ECNs, BOMs, manufacturing release packages, and engineering documentation.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners to deliver reliable, manufacturable products.
Lead technical reviews and mentor junior engineers and PCB designers.
Must-Have Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
8+ years of hands-on hardware design experience.
Strong experience using Altium Designer for schematic capture and PCB layout.
Experience designing complex multi-layer PCBs with controlled impedance and high-speed interfaces.
High-speed Signal Integrity (SI) and Power Integrity (PI) experience.
Experience with HDMI, DisplayPort, USB-C, Ethernet, PCIe, DDR memory, LVDS, MIPI, and similar high-speed interfaces.
Strong hardware debugging and root-cause analysis skills.
Experience supporting products through design, validation, and production release.
Experience collaborating with firmware, FPGA, software, mechanical, manufacturing, quality, and test teams.
Preferred Qualifications
M.S. in Electrical Engineering.
Experience with Ansys HFSS.
Experience with SI/PI analysis tools such as SIwave, HyperLynx, Sigrity, ADS, or similar.
Experience developing medical, military, aerospace, industrial, or other high-reliability products.
Familiarity with ISO 13485, IEC 60601, MIL-STD, or similar standards.
Experience with AV-over-IP, SDVoE, fiber optic transmission, digital video processing, and interface conversion technologies.
Prior mentoring or technical leadership experience.
