Our client, a San Francisco-based company that has been designing and manufacturing high-precision electronic and instrumentation systems for over 40 years, serves aerospace, defense, scientific, and industrial markets.
They are seeking a senior board-level generalist Hardware Design Engineer with strong experience in analog/mixed-signal and embedded hardware systems. In this role, you’ll lead the design and development of advanced low-noise and precision instrumentation electronics, contribute to system-level architecture, and work closely with a small engineering team across complex, multidisciplinary projects.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design board-level analog and digital circuits
Define system requirements and specifications
Develop and document hardware architectures
Contribute to and supervise projects involving embedded firmware and FPGA development
Mentor junior engineers and technicians
Write comprehensive design and product documentation
Draft and refine standard operating procedures
Participate in design reviews and provide technical recommendations
Suggest improvements to enhance system performance and features, including input for business development initiatives
Develop and implement production test strategies and programs
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
B.S. or higher in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent), with a strong foundation in core engineering principles
~6+ years of hands-on board-level design experience (more senior candidates strongly encouraged to apply)
Solid experience in board-level analog design (including instrumentation), digital design, and power-related circuitry (power management, power distribution, etc.)
Proficiency with schematic capture and familiarity with PCB layout tools (PADS or similar)
U.S. citizenship or permanent residency required (no visa sponsorship available)
‘BONUS’ QUALIFICATIONS (NOT REQUIRED):
Understanding of signal processing and control theory (linear, classical, and non-linear)
Some FPGA experience or knowledge
Knowledge and/or experience with embedded systems programming in C/C++
Familiarity with embedded Linux or real-time operating systems such as FreeRTOS
Experience in analog/mixed-signal and data acquisition designs
Familiarity with Python
Background in team leadership or mentoring of junior staff
