About Phiston Technologies
Phiston Technologies is a U.S.-based manufacturer of high-security data destruction equipment — including industrial shredders, crushers, and degaussers — trusted by defense agencies, financial institutions, healthcare systems, and Fortune 500 data centers globally. Headquartered in Miramar, FL, with operations in Chantilly, VA and Stockholm, Sweden, we engineer every product to the most demanding security standards on the market.
The Role
We are looking for a Senior Electromechanical Design Engineer to lead the mechanical and electromechanical design of our next-generation data destruction platforms. You will own the full product design lifecycle — from concept through production — collaborating with engineering, operations, and product leadership to bring best-in-class security hardware to market. This is a hands-on, high-ownership role for a builder who takes pride in precision engineering and durable, manufacturable design.
What You'll Own
• Lead mechanical and electromechanical design of shredders, crushers, and related destruction hardware from concept through production release
• Develop detailed 3D models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings in SolidWorks with strict adherence to GD&T
• Drive DFM/DFA reviews and cost reduction initiatives in collaboration with manufacturing and supply chain
• Perform FEA and structural analysis to validate designs against load, fatigue, and safety requirements
• Integrate motors, sensors, hydraulic/pneumatic components, and control wiring into mechanical assemblies
• Author and manage ECOs, BOMs, and product documentation through PLM systems
• Own design verification and validation activities; resolve field issues and support service teams
• Mentor junior engineers and set technical standards for the design team
What You Bring
Required
• 10+ years of electromechanical product design experience in a manufacturing environment
• 5+ years of hands-on SolidWorks — advanced assemblies, drawings, configurations, and PDM
• Deep command of GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and manufacturing tolerancing
• Demonstrated DFM/DFA practice reducing cost and improving yield in production
• FEA experience (SolidWorks Simulation or equivalent)
• Experience integrating motors, sensors, and wiring harnesses into mechanical systems
• Familiarity with ECO/PLM workflows and change management processes
• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (or closely related field)
Preferred
• Experience in data destruction, industrial security, or defense hardware
• Familiarity with DIN 66399, NIST 800-88, or NAID AAA standards
• M.S. in Mechanical Engineering
• Experience with hydraulic/pneumatic system design
Why Phiston
• Work on hardware that protects classified data for government agencies, intelligence communities, and global enterprises
• High-ownership engineering culture — your designs go to production
• Competitive compensation: $135K–$150K base + performance bonus
• Full benefits package: medical, dental, vision, 401(k) with 6% company match
• Small team, direct access to leadership, and real influence on product direction
