Position Summary
The Senior Electrical Engineer will play a key technical leadership role within the Research & Development team, driving the design, development, and enhancement of sophisticated electrical and electronic systems. This position focuses on product improvements, sustaining engineering efforts, and the development of next-generation technologies for complex electro-mechanical and connected medical devices.

Working closely with cross-functional teams, the successful candidate will contribute throughout the complete product lifecycle, from concept generation and feasibility studies through verification, validation, market release, and ongoing product support. This role provides exposure to a wide variety of medical technologies and offers the opportunity to influence both existing products and future innovations.

This position carries significant responsibility for delivering advanced electrical engineering solutions that support key business objectives. The Senior Electrical Engineer will lead technical initiatives, manage complex engineering activities, and provide guidance across multidisciplinary project teams.

The role requires regular collaboration with suppliers, external development partners, manufacturing teams, and end users to deliver robust, reliable, and compliant product solutions.

Key Responsibilities
Electrical Design & Development
Develop electrical and electronic architectures for complex electro-mechanical systems.
Design and create electrical circuit schematics and evaluate concepts through simulation and analysis.
Conduct feasibility assessments and statistical evaluations of critical system functions.
Design, troubleshoot, and optimize electrical systems in compliance with IEC 60601 safety and EMC standards.
Test and characterize PCB assemblies and functional blocks to support firmware development and system integration.

Firmware & System Integration
Support firmware debugging and validation activities.
Execute and evaluate firmware within test environments.
Collaborate with software engineers to identify and resolve hardware and firmware integration issues.
Implement and verify firmware-related improvements during development and testing phases.
Ensure compliance with medical device design control requirements and applicable safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
Lead the development of design inputs, technical requirements, and verification strategies.
Create verification protocols, perform testing activities, and generate formal verification reports.
Support risk management activities and contribute to overall product quality and reliability objectives.

Cross-Functional Leadership
Work closely with engineering, quality, regulatory, manufacturing, marketing, and project management teams to meet project goals.
Support timely execution of development plans and stage-gate milestones.
Provide technical leadership across projects and initiatives spanning multiple engineering disciplines.
Drive engineering best practices and continuous improvement initiatives across the organization.

Mentoring & Collaboration
Coach engineers and project team members on design control principles and engineering best practices.
Mentor junior engineers, interns, and technical contributors.
Coordinate with external partners, suppliers, and consultants to ensure successful project execution.
Present technical information effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Required Qualifications
Demonstrated experience in research and development of electronic systems for complex electro-mechanical, mechatronic, robotic, or connected medical products.
Strong understanding of medical device development methodologies and product development processes.
Experience with PCB design, electronics manufacturing methods, and product realization techniques.
Ability to perform circuit analysis, first-principles calculations, and simulations using tools such as SPICE.
Expertise in analog and digital circuit design, schematic capture, and PCB layout using tools such as Altium Designer.
Strong hardware debugging and hardware/software integration experience utilizing laboratory test equipment.

Regulatory & Quality Knowledge
Comprehensive understanding of medical device regulations and design control requirements including FDA, MDR, ISO, and related industry standards.
Experience translating User Needs into Design Inputs and developing appropriate verification and validation strategies.
Proven ability to create and execute verification protocols and generate technical reports.

Embedded Systems Experience
Working knowledge of ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers and associated peripherals.
Experience with real-time operating systems such as FreeRTOS, Zephyr, or similar platforms.
Familiarity with communication protocols including SPI, I2C, and CAN.
Programming and software development experience is considered advantageous.

Additional Skills
Understanding of Design of Experiments (DOE) and statistical analysis techniques.
Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Hands-on experience building, soldering, repairing, and prototyping electronic systems.
Experience using project management methodologies and tools.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
Results-driven approach with strong organizational and execution skills.

Experience
Minimum of 4 years of experience designing and developing complex electrical systems.
Previous experience within the medical device industry is highly preferred.
Experience leading technical projects and collaborating within multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Education
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) strongly preferred.

Work Environment
This is a site-based position that may require occasional travel for supplier visits, training programs, conferences, and cross-functional meetings. The role involves a combination of office-based engineering activities and laboratory work, including testing and evaluation of electrical and electronic systems. Extended periods of computer-based work and hands-on laboratory activities should be expected.
