About the company
You will own the full hardware development lifecycle for isolated power conversion systems and analog and mixed-signal industrial control hardware. You will drive architecture, schematic capture, PCB layout, board bring-up, design verification testing, certification support, and manufacturing handoff as part of an R&D controls and accessories team.
The client provides mission-critical industrial process heating solutions for industries including power generation, semiconductors, oil and gas, chemical processing, food and beverage, and transit. Its products operate in demanding environments, including explosive atmospheres. This role is based in Austin, Texas, with three days onsite.
What You Will Be Doing
Own isolated power conversion architectures, including flyback, SEPIC, forward, and resonant topologies.
Design custom transformers, coupled inductors, and current transformers, including thermal and leakage management.
Investigate novel power extraction and conversion topologies for hazardous-location applications.
Design analog and mixed-signal circuits for sensing, monitoring, inputs, and relay output stages.
Complete schematics and PCB layouts in Altium Designer, addressing EMC, thermal performance, and IEC 60664 creepage and clearance.
Lead board bring-up, functional verification, converter debugging, and hardware-firmware integration.
Support CSA, UL, ATEX, and EMC certification testing and resolve design issues through approval.
Deliver production design packages and mentor engineers within the team.
Key requirements / What we look for
8 to 12 years of hands-on experience designing and delivering production power electronics hardware.
Expertise in switching power supply design, converter topology selection, compensation, and control modes.
Experience designing custom magnetics, including core selection, winding design, loss analysis, and bench characterization.
Proficiency with Altium Designer from schematic capture through production PCB layout.
Working knowledge of SPICE, LTspice, SIMetrix, PSIM, or equivalent power simulation tools.
Strong understanding of switching-converter EMC, filtering, layout containment, and grounding.
Experience designing for -40°C to +85°C operation, high-voltage isolation, and IEC 60664 creepage and clearance.
Hands-on proficiency with oscilloscopes, differential and current probes, power analyzers, and impedance analyzers.
Experience with manufacturing handoff, production release, and complete design documentation.
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
