Position Overview:
Our client is seeking a Electrical Engineer to be the senior technical authority for the electronics inside every device they ship. This is a hands-on, individual-contributor role, the most senior engineer on the hardware team. You will own the electrical architecture of the product line, not just individual boards: schematic capture and PCBA layout, cellular and wireless connectivity, and the design standards the hardware is built to, from component selection through EMC, FCC, and PTCRB/carrier certification to production ramp with contract manufacturers. Along the way, you will mentor the engineers around you through design reviews and partner daily with firmware, test, and product teams to plan and design quality, reliable products that serve customer needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Own the electrical architecture and technical roadmap for the product line, setting the design standards, patterns, and component strategy the rest of the team builds to
Own schematic capture and PCBA layout across the product line, making component, stack-up, and routing decisions that result in robust, reliable, cost-effective products
Consolidate PCB schematics across the product line into a modular architecture that reduces part variation, cost, and design complexity, managing long-lead parts, obsolescence, and second sources along the way
Own wireless connectivity end to end for current and future products, cellular plus 900 MHz, LoRa, and other radio protocols, including module selection and integration, RF design and layout, and FCC, PTCRB, and carrier certification
Take boards from concept through production: prototype builds and bring-up, design validation, EMI/EMC pre-compliance, FCC/UL certification, and board spins with contract manufacturers
Serve as the final technical reviewer, leading schematic, layout, and DFM/DFT design reviews prior to release to manufacturing
Design across the full mixed-signal scope of the devices: AC power, transformer and fuse protection, solenoid drive outputs, and sensor and current-monitoring circuits
Work alongside the test team to define test plans, design production test fixtures, debug board-level issues, and validate designs against requirements
Work side by side with firmware engineers to align hardware designs with embedded firmware needs: MCU and radio selection, peripherals, and communication interfaces such as Modbus and 2-wire
Produce and maintain design documentation, including schematics, BOMs, layout files, and test reports
Help management make informed decisions on build vs. buy, architecture trade-offs, and product reliability, staying familiar with competitive products and industry innovations
Mentor and lead the electrical and test engineers around you, raising the team's quality bar through design feedback and reviews
Preferred Experience:
You've taken products through FCC/UL certification, including EMI/EMC pre-compliance testing and RF lab visits
You've worked directly with contract manufacturers on DFM, board spins, and production ramp, including BGA assembly and rework
You've designed production test fixtures or manufacturing test systems, and are comfortable partnering on the software that drives them
You've written embedded firmware yourself, C in particular, and can prototype test code, debug, and collaborate closely with firmware engineers
Hands-on antenna integration and tuning experience: matching networks, OTA testing, and working with antenna vendors
You've reverse-engineered existing or legacy board designs, recovering schematics and making sense of undocumented circuits
Connected/industrial IoT hardware experience in a related product category
Required Skills & Experience:
10+ years of electrical engineering experience, including ownership of PCB schematic design and PCBA layout
A track record of taking board designs from concept through volume production
Experience integrating cellular modules and taking products through PTCRB and carrier certification
Proficiency with EDA tools for schematic capture and PCBA layout, Altium, KiCad, Eagle, and other EDA tools welcome, with a willingness to convert to the company's design environment
Strong working knowledge of DFM/DFT principles and design for reliability
Confident at the bench, debugging mixed-signal boards with an oscilloscope, logic analyzer, and multimeter
Experience mentoring or leading other engineers
Comfortable using AI tooling to accelerate delivery
Strong communication and customer service skills
Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills
Estimate and track tasks using Agile methodologies
Exceptional organizational and time management skills
Ability to prioritize effectively and meet deadlines
Self-motivated, goal-oriented, and belief that all efforts contribute to the success of the organization
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely-related discipline, or an equivalent combination of formal education and experience
Ability to work onsite in the Dallas, TX area
