About the Role

Heads Up Technologies is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join our design engineering team in Addison, Texas. This position is responsible for the electrical design and development of prototype and production units across our entire product portfolio, from initial concept and detailed design through manufacturing release and ongoing product support.
You will serve as a hands on designer and technical leader on complex engineering projects. This role works closely with mechanical, software, FPGA, manufacturing, and sustaining engineering teams to develop reliable, manufacturable solutions for the aviation industry.

Key Details

• Schedule: Monday through Friday, generally 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with flexibility in setting daily work hours
• Location: Full time onsite in Addison, Texas
• Employment type: Full time

What You’ll Do

• Lead detailed analog and digital electrical design for circuit boards, products, and integrated systems
• Perform schematic capture, component selection, symbol and footprint development, and PCB layout
• Develop reliable and manufacturable designs that meet internal, customer, technical, and functional requirements
• Plan and execute design verification and validation activities, including board bring up, troubleshooting, and performance characterization
• Perform highly accelerated life testing, environmental qualification testing, and other product verification activities
• Support environmental and electrical qualification testing in accordance with RTCA DO 160G and other applicable standards
• Produce, maintain, and review technical documentation, including test procedures, HALT summaries, qualification reports, product drawings, and engineering records
• Serve as the electrical engineering lead on assigned projects while ensuring technical requirements, departmental processes, quality standards, and schedule commitments are met
• Collaborate with mechanical, software, FPGA, manufacturing, and sustaining engineering teams to create integrated solutions
• Research and implement engineering design changes that improve product manufacturability, reliability, and robustness
• Evaluate new technologies, standards, tools, components, and devices for potential integration into future products
• Lead and participate in technical design reviews
• Guide, mentor, and support junior engineers to promote technical development and strengthen team expertise

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent technical discipline
• Eight or more years of professional electrical design experience
• Strong experience with analog and digital circuit design
• Experience designing with processors, microcontrollers, and digital signal processors
• Experience with symbol and footprint development, schematic capture, and PCB layout
• Experience using OrCAD Capture, Allegro PCB Designer, or a similar electronic design automation toolset
• Ability and willingness to use OrCAD and Allegro as the primary design tools
• Experience with Ethernet or network based designs and common communication interfaces, including SPI, I2C, and UART
• Experience using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, function generators, and other hardware diagnostic equipment
• Ability to research, understand, and apply functional requirements, technical specifications, datasheets, and hardware manuals to electrical designs
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, technical documentation, and communication skills
• Ability to provide technical leadership on complex engineering projects

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with embedded software design, including C or assembly language
• Experience with hardware and software integration
• Experience with circuit simulation and analysis tools such as LTspice or PSpice
• Experience with RTCA DO 160G or similar environmental and electrical qualification standards
• Experience with FPGA or ASIC design
• Familiarity with Xilinx FPGAs and associated development tools
• Experience designing electronic products for aviation, aerospace, or another highly regulated industry
• Previous experience mentoring or providing technical guidance to other engineers
